Reviewing the local historical tradition, the delegates attending the program affirmed that Ung Hoa was a resilient land during the resistance war, where there was the famous “Truong Son stick” movement, and was once chosen as a safe zone of the capital Hanoi. During the resistance war against the US, under the leadership of the Party, directly by the district Party Committee, the armed forces and people of Ung Hoa overcame countless hardships, establishing many glorious feats.
From 1954 to 1965, the district armed forces actively participated in land reform, building socialist bases, establishing new production relations and developing socio-economy. During the period 1965 - 1975, when the war escalated, this force continued to be the core force with the people of the entire district to fight to protect the northern rear and support the southern front.
In particular, when the US imperialists expanded their destructive war to the North, the entire district built a widespread people's air defense formation. Communes established mobile militia companies and fought on the spot with more than 17,150 participants (accounting for 15% of the district's population at that time). The district's armed forces participated in nearly 825 battles, of which 24 were directly organized by the district, shooting down 1 US plane, damaging 5 others; coordinating with missile troops to shoot down 3 more planes, capturing 2 pilots.
Responding to the call of the Party and beloved Uncle Ho, during the resistance war against the US, Ung Hoa district organized nearly 40 military enlistment sessions, sending off more than 15,700 young men to join the army, exceeding the assigned target by 6.2%. Hundreds of families had 3 to 5 children joining the army. More than 2,460 people participated in the youth volunteer force, frontline laborers, and transported food and ammunition to serve the battlefields.
The whole district mobilized hundreds of thousands of tons of rice, supported central agencies, Hanoi to evacuate and support army units. During this resistance war, the district had 3,659 martyrs, 1,137 wounded soldiers; 9 communes and 2 individuals were awarded the title "Hero of the People's Armed Forces", 158 Vietnamese Heroic Mothers were awarded and posthumously awarded.
In recognition of that merit, the Party and State awarded the cadres, people and armed forces of Ung Hoa district 45 Resistance Medals, 4 Feat of Arms Medals, 15 Third-class Labor Medals and 156 "Determined to Win" flags.
Speaking at the meeting, Vice Chairman of Ung Hoa District People's Committee Ngo Tien Hoang affirmed that in recent years, despite facing many difficulties due to the impact of the world and domestic situation, Ung Hoa district has still strived to rise up and achieved many outstanding achievements. The district has been recognized as meeting new rural standards in 2022; 10 communes have met advanced new rural standards and 5 communes have met model new rural standards. Average income reached 74.6 million VND/person/year, economic growth rate reached 7.58%/year. The economic structure has shifted positively towards reducing the proportion of agriculture and gradually increasing the proportion of industry, trade and services.
Many infrastructure projects have been invested synchronously, from transportation, irrigation, health, education to culture, historical relics, etc., contributing to changing the face of the countryside. The whole district no longer has poor households, only 737 near-poor households.
The 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day is an opportunity for the Party Committee, government and people of Ung Hoa district to review the glorious tradition, express deep gratitude to those who came before and affirm their determination to continue the revolutionary spirit, bringing the district to rapid and sustainable development in the new period.
