Van Ban: Focus on promoting poverty reduction work

Recently, Van Ban district has focused on promoting poverty reduction, considering this a key task to be deployed to all communes and towns in the district.

To help people reduce poverty and escape poverty, Van Ban district has assigned poverty reduction targets to each commune and town; clearly assigned responsibilities and tasks to each department, branch, agency, unit, cadre, and member in helping members, union members, and people escape poverty; regularly inspected and supervised the implementation of policies and regimes related to the poor through specific and practical activities, such as focusing on propaganda, dissemination, and diversifying forms of propaganda.

At the same time, mobilize all resources in society in combination with investment and support from the State to create livelihoods, increase income, and improve people's lives. Integrate the implementation of poverty reduction support policies into the implementation of national target programs and local socio -economic development projects.

After efforts to reduce poverty, the locality has achieved positive results, typically Nam Chay commune, which is one of 10 communes in the "core poor" area of ​​Lao Cai province, with 70% of households in the commune being poor or near-poor.

To solve the problem of poverty in Nam Chay commune, Van Ban district has established a steering committee and working groups, which visit the assigned villages and hamlets 2-3 times a month to help understand the thoughts and aspirations of the people. From there, they organize propaganda to reduce poverty and information, mobilize people to promote the transformation of crop and livestock structures; mobilize social resources to help people improve their quality of life.

By the end of 2024, the poverty rate of Nam Chay commune will decrease to 29.6%, the near-poor rate will decrease to 20%; the average income per capita will reach 31.5 million VND/year. Nam Chay is no longer the poorest commune in the province.

Thanks to training in passion fruit growing techniques, people in Van Ban district have developed this model quite well as a foundation for poverty reduction.

In recent years, by implementing many practical solutions, Van Ban's poverty reduction work has achieved positive results, people have benefited from programs, projects and credit sources, proactively rising out of poverty, along with the initiative of the District People's Committee, the efforts of local Party committees and authorities and the consensus of the people in poverty reduction work as well as implementing the National Target Program on Poverty Reduction in Van Ban district have achieved positive results such as: In 2022, Van Ban's poverty reduction rate reached 6.12%, the number of poor households was only 3,154 households, accounting for 15.36%. The remaining near-poor households were 2,595 households, accounting for 12.63%.

In 2023, the poverty reduction rate reached 4.34%, the number of poor households reduced by 893 poor households; the number of remaining poor households was 2,261 households, the number of remaining near-poor households was 1,361 households. By the end of 2024, Van Ban district had reduced 821 poor households, the remaining poor household rate was 6.97%, near-poor households were 5.44%.

Properly implement the goal of multidimensional poverty reduction, inclusiveness, sustainability, limit poverty relapse and poverty generation; support the poor and poor households to overcome the minimum living standard, best access basic social services according to the national multidimensional poverty standard, improve the quality of life.

Focus and attract all investment resources to support people in developing family economy, small and medium enterprise economic development models to create jobs for workers. At the same time, encourage the spirit, spread methods and ways of doing, develop the economy of all kinds, improve income to escape poverty of people in the area.
