Attending the launching ceremony were Thanh Khe District Party Secretary Nguyen Thanh Tien, President of the Da Nang City Women's Union Hoang Thi Thu Huong, National Coordinator of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Nguyen Thi Thu Huyen, along with representatives of departments, branches, units, localities and more than 600 people who are union members, members of associations, unions, armed forces, workers...
After the launching ceremony, a series of activities took place including waste classification, collection and exchange of recyclable waste and non-biodegradable plastic bags; cleaning and sanitizing the beach along Nguyen Tat Thanh Street; drawing contest on environmental protection and reducing plastic waste...
Speaking at the launching ceremony, Acting Chairman of Thanh Khe District People's Committee Tran Tuong Van affirmed that World Environment Day (with the theme "Fighting plastic pollution") and World Oceans (theme "Magical ocean, preserving the source of life for humanity"), Vietnam Sea and Islands Week, and Action Month for the Environment are opportunities to spread the spirit of environmental protection, love for the sea, demonstrate responsibility for preserving the environment and resources of the sea and islands; at the same time, strongly affirm the determination to sustainably develop marine economic sectors associated with protecting environmental resources and national sovereignty at sea.
Thanh Khe District calls on all people, civil servants, public employees, union members at all levels, sectors, organizations and enterprises in the district to uphold their responsibility to protect the environment and the sea, islands and oceans by taking specific actions such as cleaning up coastal areas, rivers, lakes, along railway lines, vacant lots and public places; continuing to classify and collect household waste at source...
Along with that, changing consumer behavior such as increasing the use of environmentally friendly products and packaging; reducing single-use plastic products; limiting the use of plastic packaging and hard-to-decompose nylon bags in supermarkets, traditional markets, restaurants, offices, schools, etc.
In addition, replicate models of effective waste classification, collection, and recycling, especially plastic waste, towards a circular economic model.
“With the city's attention and direction, the support of international organizations, the actions of all levels of government, associations and the cooperation of each citizen, community and business, our living environment will be protected and become increasingly clean and beautiful,” Ms. Tran Tuong Van called.

On this occasion, the City Women's Union and representatives of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Vietnam presented tools and labor protection equipment to women who collect scrap.
This is one of the activities under the project to strengthen the capacity and mobilize the participation of women scrap collectors and traders in managing, classifying and treating household waste and plastic waste, implemented by the City Women's Union with the support of UNDP and the Global Environment Facility Small Grants Program (GEF-SGP).
Through the project, the City Women's Union will propose to recognize the role and rights of groups of women who purchase and trade scrap in the city, in order to contribute to the implementation of a number of goals of the Project "Building Da Nang - Environmental City" in the period of 2021-2030.
Through the launching ceremony in response to the Month of Action for the Environment, Vietnam Sea and Islands Week, World Environment Day (June 5) and World Oceans Day (June 8) and project activities, the City Women's Union hopes to spread green lifestyle, promote waste classification at source, reduce plastic waste and protect the marine environment in all levels of the union and all women's union members in the city.
