According to statistics, the city owns nearly 64km of rivers, including the Han, Cam Le, Tuy Loan, Cu De, Co Co rivers... This is an ideal condition for developing inland waterway tourism, a type of tourism that has been successful in many countries around the world .

The city issued plan No. 95/KH-UBND (2024-2025 period), a project to develop inland waterway tourism until 2030, with a vision to 2045; thereby, aiming to build a system of standard ports and wharves, add high-speed boats, yachts, accommodation boats and develop services associated with rivers. In order to promote the potential advantages of Da Nang sea and Han River, the City People's Committee has just issued a plan to organize water recreation activities in the area.

According to the plan, the means of transport allowed to operate are quite diverse, from motorised vehicles including: jet skis, parasailing canoes, banana boat-pulling canoes, windsurfing canoes, jet skis and some other motorised types in accordance with regulations; inland waterway vehicles combined with sea tubing, diving, SUP, kayaking...; to non-motorised vehicles including: windsurfing, kite surfing, windsurfing, kayaking, SUP, personal swimming boards and some other types according to regulations...

The space for organizing activities is quite large, including the area along the Hoang Sa - Vo Nguyen Giap - Truong Sa coastal route; the Nguyen Tat Thanh coastal route; the coastal area along Hai Van Pass; the coastal area along Son Tra Peninsula; the Han River water area from Han River Bridge to Tran Thi Ly Bridge. According to the assessment, this plan is a step to complete the tourism ecosystem in the direction of experience, sustainability and product diversification. Water activities such as jet skiing, parasailing, jet boards, kayaking, SUP rowing... will create a rich chain of experiences, meeting the increasing needs of modern tourists.

When synchronized with the direction of developing the night-time economy and exploiting the space along the river, the coast, and underwater entertainment activities, the plan will contribute to exploiting the potential that has long been "dormant" or fragmented. The specific planning of the activity areas also helps to centralize management, limit spontaneous activities, potential risks of insecurity and negative impacts on the environment. Thereby, improving the quality of tourism services, building the image of Da Nang as a friendly, dynamic and trustworthy destination. This vision is also consistent with the general orientation of the project on developing inland waterway tourism to 2030, with a vision to 2045. Accordingly, by 2030, waterway tourists will account for about 15-20% of the total number of overnight guests and by 2045, it will increase to 20-25%.

According to many opinions, to develop inland waterway tourism into a strategic product, in addition to drastically implementing projects and plans, the city needs to promote calling for socialized investment.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tam, General Director of Viet An Group Corporation, shared that the potential for developing river tourism in Da Nang is huge. To exploit it effectively, the relevant agencies need to socialize infrastructure investment, encourage businesses and investors to participate in building inland waterway ports and standard rest stops, especially on routes such as Han River, Cam Le River, and Tuy Loan River.

When the infrastructure is ready, the new tour route has the opportunity to exploit diversely. In addition, recreating the cultural space along the river, from there, visitors not only take a boat to sightsee but also experience traditional craft villages, art performances, and indigenous cultural activities on both banks; dredging the Co Co River to connect the waterway from Da Nang to Hoi An, forming an inter-regional cultural - ecological tourism route...

According to Mr. Cao Tri Dung, Chairman of the City Tourism Association, the relevant departments need to accelerate projects and plans for the development of inland waterway tourism, remove bottlenecks in the mechanism, and create opportunities for businesses. From there, a waterway tourism ecosystem will be formed, including a synchronous service system, from vehicles, entertainment services, floating restaurants, to craft villages, rest stops, check-in points, shopping, etc., contributing to promoting the growth of Da Nang tourism in the coming time.
