Behavioral culture of givers and receivers

Thai Nguyen, during the recent days of fighting the flood, has received the sharing and help of many philanthropists and volunteer groups. However, the culture of behavior in giving and receiving still makes many people think.

Many philanthropists supported flooded households in group 90 (Phan Dinh Phung ward) with cash and goods to repair their homes and stabilize their lives.

The floods have now passed, but Thai Nguyen people still receive meaningful gifts from many benefactors. Right in the locality, many families with better conditions, not affected by the storm, have spent a large amount of money to support their neighbors, showing the spirit of "the poor help the poor".

For example, at group 90, Phan Dinh Phung ward (where nearly 100 households were flooded), Mrs. Bui Khanh Dinh's family donated 10 million VND to Mr. Vu Van Hoa's family to rebuild their house after the flood. The group also received many meaningful gifts from the Gia Lai Department of Health . The community's affection helped the people who had just "gone" through the historic flood feel very warm.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Cong, Deputy Head of Residential Group 90, said: It is the sincere concern and sharing of everyone that has motivated households that suffered heavy damage after the flood to quickly overcome difficulties and soon stabilize their lives.

In many places in the province, households receiving support from volunteer groups and philanthropists also feel very warm. Mr. Nguyen Quang Huy, whose family was heavily affected by the storm, currently living in Dong Bam residential group, Linh Son commune, said: The kindness and sincerity of the philanthropists made the families heavily affected by the storm very happy. Receiving the attention, I feel responsible for making efforts to stabilize my life so as not to disappoint the hearts that stood by me during the most difficult times.

When having the mindset of “living in life requires a heart”, the “giver” feels very happy. Mr. Nguyen Van Duoc, group 90, Phan Dinh Phung ward, said: Honest people are very happy because their work helps many people.

The working group of Gia Lai Department of Health supported people of Phan Dinh Phung ward with medicine and environmental sanitation solutions after the flood.

Giving with sincerity and receiving love, sharing with respect, the behavior of both the giver and the receiver are very joyful. However, in some hidden corner, giving is still a formality.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Nga, a food business owner on Bac Son Street, Phan Dinh Phung Ward, said: Last September, I voluntarily spent money and effort to join a charity group, cooking meals to distribute to households in flooded areas.

However, I was very disappointed that after packing the boxes, someone in the volunteer group left a pile of them there and took pictures to post on social media without paying attention to how to deliver the food to those in need. After that, many meals that could not be delivered were spoiled and had to be thrown away. Therefore, this year, I did not participate in cooking anymore but counted how many households were affected among my workers to directly support them.

Not only the giving, but also the receiving is worth pondering. At the relief distribution point in the “flood center” of Phan Dinh Phung ward, the recipients jostled, pushed, and fought. Some people even threw away the goods they had instead of returning them to the relief team to deliver to those in need…

In life, giving is happiness but the receiver also needs to remember gratitude. This is the cultural way of behaving so that every meaningful action is spread and multiplied, thereby helping the solidarity of the Vietnamese people in general, and in Thai Nguyen in particular, to become increasingly close.
