Việt NamViệt Nam24/11/2023

Currently, the entire province has over 1,800 hectares of orange orchards, concentrated mainly in the districts of Van Giang, Kim Dong, Phu Cu, and Hung Yen city… Some of the most popular orange varieties grown by farmers include Vinh oranges, Duong Canh oranges, and V2 oranges… At this time, orchard owners are beginning to harvest oranges to supply markets both within and outside the province. With early season prices of 20-25 thousand VND/kg, oranges are easily sold.

This year, the province's orange cultivation area decreased by 125 hectares compared to last year. This is due to farmers cutting down old orchards to plant new ones and switching to other crops. To improve the economic efficiency of orange cultivation and ensure that the remaining orchards yield high economic value, the province is focusing on disseminating information, organizing training courses, and providing technical guidance; applying VietGAP standards for orange cultivation; adopting organic farming methods; and promoting trade to find markets for the product. As a result, the quality and quantity of oranges are ensured. To date, the entire province has over 700 hectares of orange orchards certified to VietGAP standards; relevant agencies have assessed and granted certificates to a number of leading orange orchards for grafting each year; and many localities are developing orange products that meet OCOP standards…

Kim Dong district currently has about 300 hectares of various types of oranges. At this time, the Vinh oranges in the district are beginning their harvest season. This year, the early-season selling price at the orchard is around 23,000-25,000 VND/kg. Mr. Nguyen The Tuyen, Head of the Agriculture and Rural Development Department of Kim Dong district, said: In the past two years, the area of orange cultivation in the district has decreased because people are cutting down old orchards to plant new ones. For the areas where oranges are still growing and producing fruit, to improve the quality and value of the product, the district is coordinating and organizing propaganda and mobilization of people to care for oranges according to proper technical procedures, monitoring the situation of pests and diseases on orange trees to take appropriate measures, expanding the area of orange production according to VietGAP standards and organic production. At the same time, it encourages and mobilizes people to link up and establish cooperatives and cooperative groups for orange cultivation to facilitate the production process and expand the market for the product. This year, the district's orange production is estimated at 7,000 tons.

Quickly cutting the first ripe oranges of the season, Mr. Nguyen Van Ba, from Thanh Sam village, Dong Thanh commune (Kim Dong district), said: "My family has 1.5 acres of orange trees, a decrease of over 3 acres compared to last year. To improve the economic efficiency of orange cultivation, this year, in addition to maintaining production according to VietGAP standards, I am applying organic farming methods, not using chemical pesticides. Currently, I am starting to harvest; organically grown oranges are selling for 35-40 thousand VND/kg."

In Quang Chau commune (Hung Yen city), people are currently preparing the necessary equipment and mobilizing manpower to harvest the first ripe, juicy oranges of the season for sale. Mr. Nguyen Van Biet, Director of the Quang Chau High-Quality Agricultural Products Production and Business Cooperative, said: To improve the economic efficiency of orange cultivation, the commune has organized training courses on techniques for caring for and preventing diseases in orange trees. The city's specialized department, in coordination with the local authorities, has been promoting the selection of high-quality orange varieties to replace diseased or old trees, ensuring food safety and hygiene during production and harvesting to enhance the quality and brand of Hung Yen oranges.

This year, the province's total orange production is estimated at over 31,000 tons, of which approximately 11,000 tons are certified to VietGAP standards. To facilitate orange sales, in addition to traditional sales channels, cooperatives and orange growers have proactively advertised their products through e-commerce platforms such as Postmart and Sendo, and social networks such as Zalo and Facebook.
