Identifying the task of raising awareness and skills to prevent accidents, especially water traffic accidents and drowning for students as an important task, in recent times, the Traffic Police Department and Provincial Police have deployed many synchronous solutions.
Recently, at Phuoc Binh B Primary School (Phuoc Binh Commune, Trang Bang Town), the Waterway Police Team under the Traffic Police Department, Provincial Police organized propaganda and dissemination of laws on Inland Waterway Traffic Law and drowning prevention for children.
During the propaganda session, the Traffic Police officers became enthusiastic propagandists, using lively and familiar communication methods, closely linked to real-life situations. The students were equipped with knowledge about the Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety and the Law on Inland Waterways Traffic, especially the provision of life-saving and rescue equipment when participating in waterway traffic, raising awareness of drowning prevention for children during the rainy and stormy season; instructions on how to equip life jackets, first aid positions for victims as well as when discovering drowning children.
The atmosphere of the propaganda session was lively with active interactions from students and teachers. Many questions and real-life situations were raised and thoroughly answered, helping students understand more deeply the importance of obeying traffic rules, knowing how to protect themselves and other road users.
In addition to directly meeting and propagating, the Traffic Police force also gave life jackets to students living along the river, helping them realize the importance of wearing life jackets and know how to use life jackets properly when participating in traffic by water.
The family of Phan Thi Ngoc Anh, a 2E student at Phuoc Binh B Primary School, lives along the river. Every day at around 6am, her mother takes her to school by boat. “When I go to school, my mother reminds me to wear a life jacket and sit properly on the boat to ensure safety,” said Phan Thi Ngoc Anh.
Phuoc Binh B Primary School currently has 520 students in 23 classes. In recent times, ensuring traffic safety for students going to school has been one of the top concerns of the unit. At the beginning of the school year, the school's Board of Directors held meetings with parents, promoting traffic safety propaganda so that everyone could remind their children.
Mr. Dang Van Sung - Head of Phuoc Binh B Primary School said: "The school is very concerned about traffic safety. Following the directive of the Departmentof Education and Training of the town, the school has arranged notice boards and propaganda boards at all school facilities. During flag-raising ceremonies or experiential activities, teachers will integrate traffic safety propaganda to raise awareness among students, thereby knowing how to keep themselves safe.
As the Team Leader, I often organize specialized activities on preventing injuries and traffic accidents; coordinate with local police to propagate and disseminate more knowledge to students. Up to now, most of the school's students have complied with traffic laws."
Campus 4 of Phuoc Binh B Primary School is located in Phuoc Giang Hamlet, Phuoc Binh Commune. There are many families living along the river, and students travel to school by primitive boats. Students have limited access to knowledge related to road and inland waterway traffic safety.
According to Mr. Dang Van Sung - Head of Phuoc Binh B Primary School, the fact that traffic police officers come to school to promote water traffic safety for students is a good thing. Through that, students can acquire useful knowledge, which will be useful for their lives.
Waterway traffic safety needs to be given more attention during the rainy and stormy season, especially for school-age children, who are not yet equipped with sufficient knowledge and skills to stay safe when participating in waterway traffic. Through direct propaganda sessions, the Traffic Police force hopes to form a sense of self-awareness of traffic law compliance for the younger generation right from when they are still in school, contributing to limiting unfortunate accidents that may occur.
In addition to promoting propaganda work, the Traffic Police force also increased patrols and controls on inland waterways, promptly preventing and stopping violations of the law, determined to maintain peace on the rivers.
