Why did Binh Dinh ask for permission to pilot flying taxis?

On October 30, the People's Committee of Binh Dinh province announced that the province's leaders had just signed a document requesting approval to build a pilot project for flying taxis operating in the province.

According to the People's Committee of Binh Dinh province, flying taxi is a type of transportation using small electric aircraft, taking off and landing vertically, used to transport about 4-5 people. This is considered an ideal means of transportation for visitors and tourists to observe and admire the beauty of nature from above.

Mr. Nguyen Tu Cong Hoang, Vice Chairman of Binh Dinh Provincial People's Committee, said that flying taxi is a green, novel, unique, modern, and breakthrough mode of transportation that makes traveling easy. In addition, this means of transportation helps save time, serves visitors and tourists well, has competitive prices, and does not emit harmful substances compared to conventional road and rail vehicles.

"Flying taxi is a form of transportation with a lot of potential, suitable for the tourism development needs of Binh Dinh province, contributing to building Binh Dinh into a leading attractive destination in the region and to realize the goal of comprehensive, fast and sustainable tourism development in accordance with the direction of the Prime Minister in Directive No. 08/CT-TTg dated February 23, 2024 and the orientation of Binh Dinh Province Planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050", Mr. Hoang shared.

According to the leader of Binh Dinh Provincial People's Committee, up to now, flying taxi is a completely new type of transport. In the world, there are a number of countries that have researched and tested passenger transport by flying taxi such as China, USA, Germany, UK, Singapore, Korea... However, in Vietnam, this type does not exist yet.

"However, with the expected benefits from flying taxi transportation being huge, it is necessary to have a testing plan, a roadmap for pilot implementation, and build a solid legal corridor before officially putting this type of transportation into operation," said the leader of Binh Dinh province.

Why is Binh Dinh the pioneer in piloting flying taxis?

The leader of Binh Dinh Provincial People's Committee said that implementing the Prime Minister's Directive on comprehensive, rapid and sustainable tourism development, Binh Dinh province has focused resources to promote tourism development in the province.

Binh Dinh has determined to make tourism a key economic sector in the 2020-2025 period with the goal of making Binh Dinh a safe destination with its own unique characteristics, civilized, friendly and attractive, creating a driving force to promote the development of other industries and fields.

Binh Dinh has many unique tourist attractions that require means like flying taxis to explore effectively.

Currently, Binh Dinh is focusing on developing and promoting its tourism brand, focusing on "Quy Nhon - Asia's leading destination", gradually forming and developing new tourist routes in the province.

Binh Dinh has rich and unique sea and island tourism resources and human tourism resources with 134km of coastline. It is not only oriented to develop as a regional tourism center, but also one of the important sea tourism centers of the country in the Master Plan for Vietnam Tourism Development to 2020, with a vision to 2030.

The number of domestic and international visitors to Binh Dinh is increasing, achieving impressive results. In particular, in 2024, Binh Dinh province successfully organized many international events. The goal is to reach 12 million tourists to Binh Dinh by 2030, including 2.5 million international visitors and 9.5 million domestic visitors.

The province has many famous beautiful beaches such as Quy Nhon, Hai Giang, Trung Luong, Cat Hai, etc. The province also has many islands near the shore such as Nhon Chau, Hon Kho, Dao Yen and has beautiful landscapes with favorable conditions for exploitation to serve marine tourism activities. In addition, Binh Dinh also has coastal bays and lagoons such as Quy Nhon Bay, Thi Nai Lagoon, Tra O Lagoon and more than 30 large and small islands, which are valuable for tourism exploitation.

However, there is currently no suitable means of transport to fully explore the beauty of Binh Dinh province as well as to help move between tourist destinations conveniently and quickly. Therefore, the People's Committee of Binh Dinh province requests the Ministry of Transport to consider the report and recommend the Prime Minister to approve the provincial People's Committee to develop a pilot project for flying taxis to operate in the province.
