According to Army Recognition, the SAMP/T air defense system, also known as Mamba, is one of the remarkable advances in the European defense industry. This system is developed by Eurosam, a cooperation unit between MBDA Italia, MBDA France and Thales.

SAMP/T is a mobile air defense system using Aster 30 surface-to-air missiles, designed to effectively counter aircraft, cruise missiles and tactical ballistic missiles. Thanks to its powerful medium-range interception capabilities, Mamba plays a role in protecting mobile forces and key targets against a variety of air threats.
The standard configuration of the Mamba includes the multi-function Arabel 3D radar, fire control system, ground launchers and Aster 30 missiles with an intercept range of up to 120 km against aerodynamic targets and about 60 km against ballistic missiles.

The Arabel radar allows detection and tracking of more than 100 targets at the same time and covers the entire surrounding airspace. With a crew of only 2 people, the complex can simultaneously engage multiple targets thanks to its very fast reaction speed, with the ability to launch eight missiles within ten seconds. This makes SAMP/T particularly effective when dealing with highly maneuverable targets over large areas.
In France, the Mamba system is deployed at several bases, playing a permanent role in protecting the national airspace and participating in missions beyond the borders. The two most important functions of the Mamba are medium-range air defense and ballistic missile defense.
A complete SAMP/T complex usually consists of four launchers, a multi-function radar with integrated friend or foe identification, a combat control center vehicle and a dedicated power generator. In addition, there are also vehicles for missile reloading and logistics support.

The SAMP/T Mamba missile defense system is developed in various configurations to meet modern air defense needs. The standard SAMP/T version uses the Arabel 3D radar and Aster 30 missiles, ensuring medium-range interception capabilities in point defense and area defense operations. On this basis, MBDA and Thales developed the SAMP/T Enhanced upgrade with improved control software, better target processing capabilities and stable interception performance in complex combat environments.
Going further, the SAMP/T NG is the most modern generation, equipped with Thales' AESA Ground Fire 300 radar, a new fire control system and an Aster 30 Block 1NT missile with an upgraded seeker to intercept high-speed targets, including short-range ballistic missiles.
Thanks to these variants, the SAMP/T Mamba becomes one of the most flexible air defense shields in Europe, highly customizable to suit everything from point defense to large-scale area defense missions.
