“I have Vietnamese nationality but I don’t think I will play for teams in Vietnam. My goal is to play in Europe, the greatest players in the history of world football also play in Europe. Of course I don’t know what my future will be like,” Bui Alex shared with Tri Thuc - Znews while waiting for a connecting flight from Dubai to Hanoi .

In recent years, a wave of overseas Vietnamese players have “returned home” and gradually asserted their position in the V.League market. The players who are “remembered by name” and have played for the national team include Dang Van Lam, Mac Hong Quan, Nguyen Filip… and most recently Cao Pendant Quang Vinh. However, Bui Alex is a case that goes against the majority.

“Cristiano Ronaldo does not play for any team in Portugal, but he still became the captain of the Portuguese national team. Therefore, I do not think that you have to play in the V.League to have the opportunity to play for the Vietnamese national team,” the player with mixed Vietnamese and Czech blood continued.

Bui Alex is one of two overseas Vietnamese players called up to the U22 Vietnam team this time along with Vicktor Le. However, according to the player who is playing for the Bohemians Praha 1905 B team, he knows nothing about Vietnamese football. Coming to Hanoi this time is considered a new experience on the path to pursuing the passion of the young player.

“Both my parents are Vietnamese, my hometown is Quang Binh . So I don’t need to learn anything about Vietnamese culture, it has been present in me since I was little. I can speak Vietnamese fluently so I am very confident and immediately agreed when invited to join U22 Vietnam. I hope to have a good experience and be able to win every match with my teammates”, Bui Alex confidently said before joining U22 Vietnam.

The list of U22 Vietnam players was announced a few days ago. In it, VFF introduced that Bui Alex was born in 2005 in Prague (Czech Republic). He is 1.78 meters tall and can play in positions such as attacking midfielder, winger and striker. In terms of personal technique, Bui Alex is the type of player with speed, ball control and stable passing, and can shoot with both feet. In the 2025 Czech Republic Third Division, he scored twice for Bohemians Praha 1905.

Bui Alex will be in Hanoi on the afternoon of May 26 and is expected to go to Hang Day Stadium to watch the derby match between CAHN and Hanoi. He has 2 days of rest before joining the U22 Vietnam team.
