According to VNA, on the occasion of US President Joe Biden's state visit to Vietnam from September 10-11, Vietnamese Ambassador to the US Nguyen Quoc Dung spoke with the press about the purpose and significance of the visit, as well as the achievements of bilateral cooperation in the past and the prospects for relations between the two countries in the future.
Ambassador Nguyen Quoc Dung stated that since Vietnam and the United States normalized relations in 1995, all sitting US presidents have visited Vietnam. Now, President Joe Biden is continuing this fine tradition.
It is particularly significant that the visit takes place as the two countries celebrate the 10th anniversary of the establishment of their Comprehensive Partnership (2013-2023).
Given the comprehensive and profound development of bilateral relations, President Biden's visit will create further momentum to elevate bilateral relations to a new level. This is the spirit that General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and President Biden agreed upon during their high-level telephone conversation on March 29th.
For Vietnam, hosting President Biden on a state visit contributes to the implementation of its independent, self-reliant, diversified, multilateral foreign policy, and comprehensive and deep international integration.
"I believe that the important outcomes of this visit will practically serve the interests of the people of both countries, contribute to the relationship between the US and ASEAN, as well as peace , cooperation and development in the region and the world," said Ambassador Nguyen Quoc Dung.
Ambassador Nguyen Quoc Dung said that during the visit, President Biden will have important talks and meetings with General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and high-ranking leaders of the Vietnamese Party and State; and will also engage in activities with businesses and the people.
The two sides will review the Comprehensive Partnership across various fields and set directions for future relations, focusing on cooperation in science and technology, economy, trade and investment, people-to-people exchanges, and addressing the consequences of war.
"This will open a new chapter in Vietnam-US relations , while creating more favorable objective conditions for Vietnam to gradually assert a higher position in the regional and global value chain," the Ambassador emphasized.
The two sides also plan to jointly organize activities such as the exchange of war relics and meetings between technology companies.
On this occasion, the two sides are expected to sign many important economic agreements and contracts that could be worth billions of USD.
Ambassador Nguyen Quoc Dung expressed optimism about the future of bilateral relations, based on the progress and achievements the two countries have made in the past; the potential and aspirations of the people of each country; and the new cooperation frameworks that Vietnamese and American leaders will create during President Biden's upcoming visit.
"I believe that, just like the 28 years since normalization and the 10 years of the Comprehensive Partnership, the cooperation between the two countries will make a positive contribution to Vietnam's development goals set by the 13th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam for the very important milestones of 2030 and 2045," the Ambassador said.
"History has also proven that when Vietnam-US relations develop positively and stably, it will not only serve the practical interests of the people of both countries, but also be in line with the trend of peace, cooperation, and development, making a positive contribution to the development of relations between the US and ASEAN, as well as maintaining stability and common prosperity of the entire region and the world," Ambassador Nguyen Quoc Dung emphasized.
