The second round of Vietnam-US ministerial negotiations took place on June 4 in Paris, France. Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien and US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer assessed the implementation of the work and contents agreed upon after the second round of negotiations, and discussed orientations for the next round.

At the meeting, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien announced the main points in Vietnam's response document to the issues the US side requested to supplement. He affirmed Vietnam's determination and goodwill to find a common voice and action with the US.

The Minister asked US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer to express his views on issues of concern to Vietnam.

US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer highly appreciated Vietnam's goodwill, approach and handling of the issue with the proposals made by the US side. He also acknowledged the efforts and constructive spirit of the Vietnamese negotiating delegation.

He said that Vietnam is a Comprehensive Strategic Partner of the US, so reaching an agreement on reciprocal tax policy at this time is important for both countries. He also responded to issues of concern to Vietnam and proposed some solutions to handle complicated issues during the negotiation process.

The two Ministers agreed to speed up the progress of the third round of technical negotiations, scheduled to be held in the first half of June. Technical levels between the two sides will continue to exchange and work to resolve outstanding issues.

The two Ministers also pledged to continue coordination and are ready to conduct many ministerial-level exchanges to promote the negotiation process, aiming for appropriate results for both sides.

After the US announced the postponement of the reciprocal tariffs and agreed to start negotiations with Vietnam, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh established a Government negotiating team. Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien is the head of the negotiating team. Since early May, the Vietnamese technical exchange team has been working on bilateral trade negotiations with relevant US agencies.

After the second round of negotiations (May 19-22) in Washington DC, the two sides identified groups of issues of consensus and content that need further discussion. Based on the results achieved, the actual situation and Vietnam's ability to respond, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh asked the negotiating team to try to reach an agreement with the US side soon.
