Vietnam attaches importance to cooperative relations with countries and international organizations.

According to a special correspondent of the Vietnam News Agency, on December 1 (local time), on the occasion of attending the 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh had bilateral meetings with leaders of countries and international organizations.

 

At a meeting with President of the European Commission (EC) Ursula von der Leyen, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance to the comprehensive partnership and cooperation between Vietnam and the European Union (EU) and hopes that the EU and its member states will increase support for Vietnam in finance, technology, and human resource training to respond to climate change and energy transition within the framework of the Political Declaration on the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP).

 

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh respectfully conveyed the invitation to Ms. Ursula von der Leyen to visit Vietnam from General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong andPresident Vo Van Thuong.

 

The Prime Minister hopes that the EC will have a positive voice so that the remaining EU member states will soon ratify the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA); and request the EC to consider soon removing the IUU “yellow card” on Vietnam’s seafood exports, taking into account Vietnam’s determination and efforts in seriously implementing the EC’s recommendations on sustainable fisheries development.

 

The EC President affirmed that Vietnam is an important partner of the EU and EC, welcoming close cooperation between the two sides, typically the implementation of JETP.

 

Ms. Ursula von der Leyen positively shared Vietnam's proposal on the EVIPA Agreement, highly appreciated Vietnam's efforts in implementing the EC's recommendations on IUU and hoped that the issue would be resolved soon in the near future.

 

The two sides agreed to promote close cooperation at regional and international forums.

 

At the meeting with Hungarian President Katalin Novak, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh highly appreciated the traditional friendship and close relationship between the two countries that has continued to develop positively in many fields over the past 70 years.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh suggested that relevant agencies of Vietnam and Hungary further promote cooperation, especially in economics, trade, investment, and market opening, as the two countries still have a lot of potential and room for cooperation.

 

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh asked Hungary to urge the remaining EU member states to soon ratify the EVIPA and have a voice so that the EC can soon remove the IUU “yellow card” on Vietnamese seafood, while actively supporting the stance of ASEAN and Vietnam on the East Sea issue.

 

For his part, President Novak emphasized that Hungary always appreciates the role and position of Vietnam in general and the Vietnamese community in Hungary in particular, affirming that Hungary is committed to maintaining scholarships for Vietnamese students to study and research in Hungary.

 

President Novak expressed his wish to visit Vietnam soon, and emphasized that Hungary also looks forward to welcoming Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to visit Hungary in 2024.

The two sides agreed to actively promote delegation exchanges, especially high-level delegation exchanges, local cooperation, and people-to-people exchanges in the coming time, contributing to deepening and practical bilateral relations, while promoting the role of a bridge for cooperation between ASEAN and the EU.

 

In a meeting with Indonesian President Joko Widodo, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh highly appreciated the development of the Vietnam-Indonesia strategic partnership in the context of the two countries celebrating the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the strategic partnership (2013-2023) and congratulated Indonesia on successfully assuming the role of ASEAN Chair in 2023.

 

The Indonesian President expressed his pleasure to meet Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh again, affirming that Indonesia always attaches importance to the strategic partnership between the two countries and thanked Vietnam for actively supporting Indonesia during its ASEAN Chairmanship year.

 

The two leaders agreed to continue cooperation and coordinate positions within ASEAN and international forums, including climate change response and energy transition.

 

In a meeting with Finnish President Sauli Niinisto, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that Vietnam attaches importance to multifaceted cooperation with Finland - an important partner of Vietnam in the Northern European region.

 

President Niniisto emphasized that Finland considers Vietnam a potential partner in Southeast Asia and hopes that the two countries will continue to strengthen cooperation, especially in the fields of green transformation, renewable energy and climate change response.

 

The two leaders agreed to promote trade and investment cooperation, taking advantage of the achievements of the Vietnam - EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) to increase bilateral trade turnover to be more commensurate with the potential of both sides.
