On the evening of July 30, in Hanoi, the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco in Vietnam held a ceremony to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the accession of King Mohammed VI (July 30, 1999 - July 30, 2024) and the 63rd anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Morocco (March 27, 1961 - March 27, 2024).
Speaking at the ceremony, Moroccan Ambassador to Vietnam Jamale Chouaibi said that this year, there have been high-level visits between Morocco and Vietnam. In particular, the visit to Morocco by Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Central Propaganda Department Nguyen Trong Nghia and the visit to Vietnam by Secretary General of the Moroccan House of Representatives Najib El Khadi have emphasized the commitment and political will to further strengthen bilateral relations between Morocco and Vietnam.
"In the coming time, the Vietnam - Morocco partnership needs to focus on strengthening cooperation in areas of comparative advantage. The upcoming meeting of the Subcommittee on Trade and Industry Cooperation held in Rabat in October this year will outline a roadmap and Action Plan for this issue," Moroccan Ambassador to Vietnam Jamale Chouaibi emphasized.
Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang said: “In recent years, Vietnam and Morocco have embarked on a journey to enhance bilateral cooperation. This growing partnership, in terms of politics, economics and culture, reflects the shared vision of both countries to take advantage of their respective strengths and geographical locations for mutual benefits. As a friend of Morocco, Vietnam has always followed and supported Morocco’s progress in national construction and development. We are pleased to know that Morocco is currently one of the world’s leading countries in green transformation, aiming to achieve net zero emissions by 2050 - a goal that Vietnam is also striving towards.”
Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang thanked the Moroccan Government for providing many scholarships for Vietnamese students to study in the Kingdom of Morocco, and believed that the young generation of the two countries will be the bridge to bring the good relationship today to sustainable and long-term development in the future.

Economically, the Vietnam-Morocco partnership shows great promise as both countries see huge untapped potential. Key areas identified for mutually beneficial cooperation include: agricultural products, energy, textiles, chemicals, fertilizer production, mining and mineral processing. The economies of the two countries are complementary, providing further opportunities for significant growth in bilateral trade.
Both Vietnam and Morocco see their partnership as a gateway to broader regional cooperation. Morocco’s strong presence in Africa as the first largest investor in West Africa and second largest on the continent makes the Kingdom a potential bridge for Vietnam to access African markets, especially West Africa.
Similarly, Vietnam, as a key player in ASEAN, helps Morocco strengthen its connections with Southeast Asian countries. Morocco’s accession to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC) in 2016 and its recognition as an ASEAN Sectoral Dialogue Partner in 2023 are testaments to this strategic direction. Vietnam’s support for Morocco’s bid to join the two aforementioned ASEAN Bodies, as well as Morocco’s support for Vietnam’s engagement with the African Union and the African continent, demonstrates the two countries’ commitment to supporting each other in promoting broader regional partnership and solidarity across continents.
The relationship between the people of Vietnam and Morocco was formed in the 1950s of the last century. In recent years, Vietnam and Morocco have embarked on a journey to enhance bilateral cooperation. This growing partnership, in political, economic and cultural aspects, reflects the common vision of both countries to take advantage of their respective strengths and geographical locations for mutual benefit.
With the strong political will of both sides demonstrated through recent high-level commitments, Vietnam-Morocco bilateral cooperation is poised to gain momentum and strength in the coming years. The two countries wish to take their relationship to a new level so that it can become a model of transcontinental cooperation. That transcends geographical boundaries and cultural differences, demonstrating the spirit of international cooperation in a connected world./.
