5G is reshaping the future of network connectivity
5G Day 2024 is the first in-depth conference on 5G in Vietnam aiming to expand a diverse 5G service platform/ecosystem.
The event delves into new advances in 5G technology and how 5G is reshaping the future of network connectivity.
At the event, speakers shared impressive numbers showing the strong growth of 5G networks globally.
According to Mr. Pham Le Chung - Director of Software & Cloud Services at Ericsson, 5G has covered 55% of the world's population and is accounting for 34% of global mobile traffic, opening up many new opportunities for businesses and consumers.
Mr. Chung affirmed that the 5G network is not just a normal upgrade but a revolution in the telecommunications field. Applications such as IoT (Internet of Things) will become more popular, helping to connect millions of smart devices and create a diverse connected ecosystem. Secure data for the IoT management platform is reliable data, information security, easy configuration and compatibility.
According to Ericsson, the use of 5G will bring efficiency to smart factories, where monitoring and management of production processes can be done more efficiently.
The organizers hope that the 5G Day 2024 event will help guests have an overview of the 5G ecosystem and seek business opportunities from this service when 5G is officially commercialized in Vietnam. In fact, previous technology events organized by Viettel have contributed to promoting the IoT industry in general, while bringing opportunities for IoT subscriber growth for the group.
Speaking at the event, Ms. Vo Thi Trung Chinh - Director of Ho Chi Minh City Digital Transformation Center said that with the deployment of super-fast and low-latency 5G network, Ho Chi Minh City aims to have 90% of households using broadband Internet by 2025.
“The 5G Day event is not only a technology exhibition but also an opportunity for businesses to meet, exchange and cooperate. Therefore, Ho Chi Minh City encourages businesses to invest in digital infrastructure and provide IT solutions in areas such as agriculture, healthcare and education”. Ms. Vo Thi Trung Chinh emphasized and expressed her hope that the 5G connection platform will open up a new space for socio -economic development, helping each citizen feel the practical value that technology brings.
“We hope that from here, strategic partnerships will be formed and bold ideas will be initiated, to make 5G technology truly become a driving force to change life,” said Mr. Nguyen Trong Tinh - Deputy General Director of Viettel Telecommunications Corporation.
Vietnam's Internet Takes Off After First 5G Network
On October 15, 2024, Viettel became the first network operator to commercialize 5G and ensure the No. 1 coverage in Vietnam right from its launch. With more than 6,500 BTS stations, covering 100% of the capitals of 63/63 provinces, cities, industrial parks, tourist areas, seaports, airports, hospitals, universities, Viettel's 5G network can reach speeds of 700Mbps-1Gb, 10 times faster than 4G and low latency of almost 0.
A survey after 2 months of officially providing the group's services showed that 80% of 5G customers are concentrated in urban areas, industrial parks and tourist areas, while customers in rural areas mainly use 4G. This is also the reason why Viettel decided to prioritize 5G coverage in provincial capitals and areas that will use 5G the most. Accordingly, Vietnam has jumped 8 places to 43rd place after having the first 5G network, with a growth rate of 31% - the strongest increase according to Ookla's assessment. Statistics from iSpeed - the measurement system of the Ministry of Information and Communications also showed a similar trend in October - the time Viettel launched the 5G network.
A representative of Viettel Telecom said that the company is continuing to expand 5G coverage to meet the needs of improving customer service experience in district centers in 2025 and the 5G Day event is one of the steps in the group's 5G popularization strategy.
