On the morning of April 30, the early summer sun was just peeking through the trees, and the atmosphere in my unit was unusually bustling and exciting. After breakfast, the whole company was present in the common room.
Attentive eyes were focused on the TV screen counting down the time to the live broadcast of the 50th Anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 / April 30, 2025).
No one said anything, but in every look, every soft word, I clearly felt the excitement rising. As young soldiers, we were fortunate to live in peace , to witness a heroic milestone of the nation. At that moment, in each person's heart suddenly arose a sacred emotion - the honor of continuing the glorious tradition, of being grateful and thankful to the generations of fathers and brothers who had fallen for independence and freedom today.
The bustling music resounded, each solemn and majestic figure appeared in the center of the City named after Uncle Ho. I quietly looked around the room: My comrades, their strong faces still marked by the dust of the training ground, now seemed to soften before the historic moment. Some were silent, their eyes filled with tears. Some happily pointed to the screen, where the army marched in unison to the sound of cheers, amidst the colorful flags of the people on both sides of the road.
In that sacred moment, I believe that we all clearly felt one thing: Wearing the green uniform is a great pride, but also a great responsibility. That responsibility is not only shown through the results of training and practice, but also a silent and sacred promise, a promise to ourselves, to our families, to our units: We - today's generation, will follow in the footsteps of our fathers and brothers, keeping the bright red flag flying in the peaceful sky of our Fatherland.
The ceremony ended but the echoes still resonated in my heart. I still seemed to hear the familiar melody of the song “The Country Full of Joy” by musician Hoang Ha echoing somewhere: “Beautiful forever faith/ The Fatherland forever/ The whole unified country/ Radiant Vietnam... Radiant Vietnam!”.
