Early Detection - The Key to Cancer Treatment
At the age of over 70, Mr. N.D.H. began to feel difficulty urinating, urgent need to urinate and sometimes mild urinary incontinence. During a routine health check, the doctor recommended that he do a PSA (prostate-specific antigen) test – an important indicator for early detection of cancer.
The results showed that the PSA index was up to 64 ng/mL, 16 times higher than the normal limit. After a biopsy, Mr. H. was diagnosed with high-risk prostate cancer. After careful research at many medical facilities, he decided to choose Vinmec Times City for treatment.
Here, Mr. H. was treated with modern imaging techniques such as multi-parametric prostate magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and PET/CT using PSMA tracer - the most advanced method to detect cancer cells more accurately and earlier.
After receiving all the results, the patient was consulted at the Multidisciplinary Oncology Council. The treatment regimen was agreed upon as radical radiotherapy (using radiation to destroy cancer cells in situ) combined with endocrine therapy to inhibit the hormone testosterone - the "fuel source" that helps the tumor grow.
Radiation therapy regimens accurate to the millimeter
Previously, when there was no technology to accurately locate the lesion, the radiation dose would affect the entire prostate gland, possibly affecting surrounding healthy organs. At the Department of Radiation Therapy, Oncology - Radiation Therapy Center, Vinmec Times City Hospital, thanks to a modern imaging diagnostic equipment system, doctors can detect and determine the exact location of the lesion to the millimeter.
This is a condition that helps doctors apply the latest updated radiation therapy regimen including VMAT (Volume Modulation of Arcs) and SIB (Simultaneous Dose Intensification) techniques, helping to increase efficiency and reduce treatment time for patients. This is a regimen currently being applied in the US and many European countries, considered the first choice for 70-80% of prostate cancer patients with high-risk lesions that can be identified by clinical examination or imaging diagnosis.
“At Vinmec, cancer treatment is not only about destroying tumors but also about ensuring the patient’s quality of life. Therefore, we strive to conquer and apply any new regimen or technique that can bring additional value to patients as soon as possible,” said Master, Doctor Doan Trung Hiep, Chairman of the Oncology Council - Vinmec Healthcare System.

Vinmec Times City currently owns a high-precision radiotherapy center with a strict quality control process, always taking check-images before each radiation session, ensuring that the patient's position (both external and internal organ positions) is maintained as planned. Real-time fixation, marking and adjustment techniques help maintain accuracy throughout the treatment process. In particular, the application of VMAT technology helps significantly reduce radiation dose to surrounding healthy organs, optimizing treatment effectiveness.

After one month of treatment, Mr. H's PSA index decreased significantly to 0.02ng/mL, showing very positive treatment results, with almost no side effects on the urinary system.
“Optimism and faith in Vinmec doctors helped me recover, become healthy and especially live happily again,” Mr. H. emotionally shared.
The success of the treatment marks an important step forward for Vinmec in the field of oncology, affirming its ability to master the world's leading advanced techniques. With the vision of developing precision medicine, Vinmec does not stop at curing diseases but aims at value-based care, meaning that any new technological or technical advances will be applied to the maximum to bring more practical benefits to patients without increasing costs or prolonging treatment time.
