To serve young audiences on the occasion of International Children's Day June 1 this year, the Ho Chi Minh City Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera (HBSO) will bring the ballet "Cinderella" back to the City Theater with performances at 8 p.m. on June 1 and 2.
The ballet “Cinderella” was composed by Russian composer Sergei Prokofiev and was first performed at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow in November 1945.

With a touching story and wonderful music , Prokofiev's “Cinderella” remains a favorite work around the world.
“Cinderella” tells the story of a little girl who lost her mother. Her father later remarried, so Cinderella had to live with her weak father, a stepmother, and two domineering step-sisters.
A ragged old woman appeared and Cinderella took pity on her and gave her the slippers. However, when she returned, the old woman had transformed into her Fairy Godmother. Thanks to this, Cinderella was able to attend the ball, wear a gorgeous dress and her slippers were transformed into beautiful dancing shoes.
When the ball arrives, Cinderella and the Prince dance together after the two stepsisters try every way to approach and dance with the Prince. However, Cinderella's magic will only last until midnight when the clock strikes twelve, she rushes out of the ballroom, and loses one of her shoes.
Back home by the fire, Cinderella swept the floor. The Prince and his men arrived, looking for the owner of the abandoned shoe. When they discovered it was Cinderella, the Prince took Cinderella home. They lived happily ever after…
“Cinderella” was staged by the HBSO with Norwegian choreographer Johanne Jakhelln Constant, and premiered in 2013. In 2017 and 2019, the ballet was brought back to the stage and was enthusiastically received by the audience each time it was performed.
In this 2024 return, the play will feature the following artists: Do Hoang Khang Ninh (as Cinderella), Nguyen Duc Hieu (as Prince), Dang Minh Hien (stepmother), Pham The Phuong (stepmother's son), Nguyen Thu Trang, Thach Hieu Lang, Sung A Lung, HBSO Dance Troupe and students of Ho Chi Minh City Dance School...
