Dirty food information in schools: Lam Dong tightens food safety

Lam Dong province issued a document to the police, departments, wards, communes, and special zones requesting to strengthen food safety control at educational institutions that organize meals for boarding students.

On September 20, according to information from the Office of Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee, Mr. Dinh Van Tuan, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, has just signed a document requesting departments, branches and authorities of communes, wards and special zones to urgently tighten food safety management in school canteens.

Accordingly, after the press and electronic information sites reported on the risk of dirty food at Trung Vuong Primary School, Xuan Huong Ward - Da Lat, Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee issued a comprehensive directive, requesting inspection and correction of boarding kitchens to ensure safety for students.

In the context of the new school year just starting, the incident of parents at Trung Vuong Primary School (Da Lat) worrying about dirty food has sounded the alarm about the safety of school meals.

Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee assigned the Department of Health to coordinate with the Provincial Police and relevant units to quickly verify, clarify the reflection, investigate responsibility and report to the Provincial People's Committee before September 23. At the same time, inspection teams will increase surprise inspections of collective kitchens, especially large-scale schools, promptly correct violations, and ensure food safety.

From September 16, 2025, many parents will take their children home for lunch due to concerns about food safety in school kitchens.

The provincial police are tasked with combating and strictly handling violations of the law in the business and supply of poor quality food; strictly handling organizations and individuals who violate the law, especially the smuggling, production, processing and trading of fake and poor quality food.

The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Department of Industry and Trade are responsible for controlling food origins and preventing smuggled goods of unknown origin, especially at schools.

Regarding the education sector, the Provincial People's Committee emphasized the need to strengthen coordination between schools and the Parents' Association to promote the role of supervising boarding kitchens; teachers and students must be equipped with knowledge to protect themselves from the risk of poisoning and foodborne diseases. The Department of Education and Training promptly and proactively coordinates with competent agencies to handle food safety incidents and food poisoning in educational institutions under its management.
