The natural disaster left "scars" that are difficult to heal on the traffic arteries of Son Luong. The only road of nearly 20 km from Nam Muoi village to Giang Pang and Lang Manh suffered serious landslides, of which the 9 km road from Giang Pang to Lang Manh almost collapsed completely with hundreds of landslides; in some places the mass of rock and soil slid for more than 100 meters.

In addition, the natural disaster also caused 3 houses to completely collapse, 6 houses to be severely damaged, dozens of houses to need to be relocated, and 11.3 hectares of cinnamon, 22 hectares of rice, corn, and vegetables to be buried and eroded.
Traffic was completely paralyzed, the two villages were isolated, without electricity, and communication was unstable. These were also two highland villages with 100% Mong ethnic people living there, the people's lives were difficult, and the poverty rate was high.

In the context of mounting difficulties, the spirit of solidarity and determination to restore life has been strongly promoted by the Party Committee, the government and the people of Son Luong. 5 relief and supply teams established by the commune quickly brought food, necessities, and medicine, walked for many hours, over the mountains to Giang Pang and Lang Manh, both showing the affection and concern of the locality, and reassuring the spirit, ensuring that people would not go hungry after the natural disaster.
Comrade Trinh Xuan Thanh - Secretary of the Son Luong Commune Party Committee also stood up to connect and call for help from the community for the two isolated villages. Volunteer groups and the commune government overcame difficulties to bring food, medicine, necessities, cash... to support the affected households with a total budget of hundreds of millions of VND.

At the same time, the commune focused on human resources, material resources, and machinery to handle landslides and restore inter-village roads. With tireless efforts day and night, on October 5, the 7km road to Giang Pang village was cleared and motorbikes could travel; the road from Giang Pang to Lang Manh is also being repaired. The remaining road still has many seriously eroded and broken sections, but it cannot be repaired by human power.
Identifying traffic as the key factor to implement all other remedial activities, the Party Committee and the authorities of Son Luong commune urgently discussed, surveyed, and agreed on a plan to open a detour route, determined to allow motorbikes and trucks to soon reach Lang Manh.

The plan to open a road from Giang Pang through Nam Bieu residential area to avoid 3 major landslides, which cannot be overcome, has been "locked" for implementation. On the morning of October 13, with more than 200 cadres, party members and people of Lang Manh and Giang Pang villages, they joined forces and united to dig the road and stone embankments at the broken positions...
Just like that, in more than three days, the 10.7 km from Lang Manh to Giang Pang was open to motorbikes. Households whose land was included in the "new road planning" also proactively harvested land to donate to open the road. Typical examples include: Mr. Vang A Tong in Giang Pang village donated 3,000 m2 of bamboo shoot and cinnamon hill land, Mr. Vang A Chu donated 1,000 m2 , Giang A Lu donated more than 100 m2 , Vang A Tua donated 100 m2 ...
Mr. Giang A Lu - Head of the Economic Department of Son Luong Commune, said: "Taking advantage of favorable weather, the commune urgently put 3 excavators into operation at full capacity, determined to let trucks enter Lang Manh soon. Only with roads can people quickly recover their lives."

The Commune People's Committee also promptly issued a decision to pay support to the affected people with a total budget of 245 million VND, including 5 million VND/injured person; support for 3 houses that were washed away or completely collapsed (40 million VND/house); support for 6 houses that were severely damaged (20 million VND/house). The local forces actively supported the people to clean up, search for property, and move houses to a safe place.

Secretary of Lang Manh village Party cell, Ho A Tru shared: Over the past month, all the people in our village have been working tirelessly to overcome the consequences of natural disasters. Together we have handled traffic landslides, moved houses to safe places, reconnected broken water pipes to promptly bring water back to serve production and daily life...
All were led, assigned specific tasks to each party member in charge of each group, urged and carried out together. That solidarity and unanimity helped us to carry out a huge amount of work that would otherwise have required a lot of time and money.
Mr. Giang A Chu - a resident of Lang Manh village confided: My house in the old location is no longer safe. Right after the storm, the village Party Cell, mass organizations and people joined hands to help me dismantle the house and move it to a safe place. With the help of many people, my family has finished leveling the ground, sawing the wood, and in about a month we will have a new house.

Currently, 8/9 affected households have been actively overcoming the damage and stabilizing their housing; some households have planted corn and vegetables thanks to timely support from the government and mass organizations. The Party cells of the two villages have held meetings to discuss specific solutions to overcome the consequences of natural disasters, ensure safety and soon restore production. Immediately after the road is cleared, the villages will mobilize forces to clean up the fields, dredge the canal system within the fields, and prepare the best conditions for the upcoming winter-spring crop.
Rice fields that cannot be restored are being directed to dig fish ponds; cinnamon is being planted in areas that have collapsed; corn and vegetable cultivation is being increased to serve livestock and daily life...
Giang Pang and Lang Manh today still face many difficulties, but the dirt and rocky roads are less bumpy and the newly built roofs are more solid. And above all, the Mong people here are working together to build a stronger, more united community after the storm and flood.
