Synchronized coordination, maintaining sustainable results
In recent years, along with expanding the network of schools and improving the quality of education, the work of eliminating illiteracy in Binh Dinh (formerly - now Gia Lai province) has always received special attention from Party committees, authorities and organizations at all levels. Thanks to that, the local illiteracy eradication movement has not only maintained sustainable results but also contributed practically to the goal of socio -economic development of the whole province.
According to the Department of Education and Training of Gia Lai , by the end of 2024, the XMC work in Binh Dinh (old) had achieved many remarkable results. The total population aged 15-25 was 253,001 people, of which 252,965 were literate, reaching a rate of 99.99%. Only 36 people in this age group were illiterate, accounting for a rate of 0.01%. In the age group of 15-35, the literacy rate also reached 99.9%, with 570,041 literate people out of a total of 570,587 people.
Notably, in the population group of 15-60 years old, a large age group with many fluctuations in population and education level, the literacy rate still reached 99.23%. These figures clearly reflect the great efforts of all levels and sectors in eliminating illiteracy, especially in difficult areas, remote areas, and areas with ethnic minorities.
In 2024, the whole province mobilized 25 students to participate in XMC organized in 2 classes. Although the number is not large, maintaining and organizing the class shows the high determination of the Education sector and localities in not leaving "blank areas" in terms of literacy, ensuring that all people have the opportunity to access basic knowledge.
To achieve that result, the Education sector has proactively advised the Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, and Provincial People's Committee to issue specific directives and instructions. At the same time, it has closely coordinated with departments, branches, and organizations in propagating and mobilizing people to participate in XMC learning.
The XMC teaching staff is fully mobilized from the team of primary school teachers with standard qualifications, understanding the area and long-term commitment to students. Classes are flexibly organized at educational institutions, community learning centers, agencies, organizations or village cultural houses, creating the most favorable conditions for learners.
Working together for the goal of leaving no one behind
People receive support with necessities when attending literacy classes.
Not only teaching, cadres and teachers also pay much attention to people's lives. Mr. Nguyen Van Cot, Department of Quality Management - Vocational Education - Continuing Education (Gia Lai Department of Education and Training) shared: "During the process of visiting literacy classes, we and teachers in charge of the class often pay attention to the living conditions of the people. To encourage students to attend class regularly, everyone joins hands to give necessities, helping people feel more excited when going to school. Thanks to that, the attendance rate is always maintained stable."
Thanks to the synchronous coordination between sectors, up to now, 11/11 administrative units of Binh Dinh (old) have met the XMC level 2 standard, bringing the whole province to the XMC level 2 standard as prescribed. This is an important milestone, affirming the persistent efforts of all levels and sectors in the journey of improving people's knowledge and eliminating hunger and reducing poverty through knowledge.
According to the Department of Education and Training, the results achieved in 2024 are an important premise for the province to continue to maintain and improve the quality of XMC in the coming period. In addition to consolidating the results of universal education, the sector will focus on reviewing and accurately counting the number of illiterate and re-illiterate people to have appropriate advocacy measures.
Localities will also strengthen propaganda and promote the role of grassroots authorities, women's unions, youth unions, and farmers' associations in mobilizing people to study. Especially in ethnic minority areas, it is necessary to integrate XMC content with poverty reduction and livelihood development programs, helping people clearly see the practical benefits of literacy in daily life.
“No one is left behind on the journey of learning to read and write”, that is the motto that the provincial Education sector has identified for many years. Although the road ahead is still difficult, with the consensus and determination of the entire political system, the work of XMC in Binh Dinh (old) will certainly continue to achieve sustainable results, contributing to building a learning society, improving the quality of human resources to serve the local socio-economic development.
