Lung Cao Commune unleashes tourism development potential

Foreign tourists visit and stay at Homestay Son Ba Muoi Ecolodge in Lung Cao commune (Ba Thuoc).

Mr. Bui Van Doanh, manager of Homestay Son Ba Muoi Ecolodge, said: "Homestay Son Ba Muoi Ecolodge was invested in construction and put into operation in 2023, on an area of ​​2,000m2 with 1 community room, 8 bungalows, 3 VIP rooms designed in indigenous style, basically meeting the requirements of guests. Here, visitors can not only admire the beautiful natural scenery of Pu Luong, but also directly experience and participate in the production activities as well as the daily life of the indigenous people, such as: following the people into the forest to pick vegetables, bamboo shoots, and prepare dishes imbued with the cultural nuances of the Thai and Muong ethnic groups. When night falls, Homestay Son Ba Muoi Ecolodge is lit up by campfires, bustling music, the aroma of fermented rice wine brings our souls to the Thai khap melodies, bamboo dances...".

Going down to Nua village, we visited Minh Luong Homestay, the first household to implement the community tourism model and has been quite successful over the years. Mr. Ha Van Minh, owner of Minh Luong Homestay, shared: "In 2016, an expert from Pu Luong Nature Reserve rented my family's traditional stilt house to stay during a field survey around the area. During our stay here, the expert guided my family on how to do tourism, introduced English classes, and created a menu to serve tourists according to each group's taste. Thanks to that, my family has learned how to do tourism and promote the tourism image of our homeland to tourists. During the rice harvest season, many tourists come to visit, so there are months when my family earns nearly 30 million VND. With many tourists coming, the villagers have become more aware of preserving cultural values, unique local products, as well as maintaining a green - clean - beautiful environment".

Mr. Ha Van Tuan, Vice Chairman of Lung Cao Commune People's Committee, said: Lung Cao Commune is located in the core area of ​​Pu Luong Nature Reserve. This is a locality with pristine natural scenery, cool climate all year round and traditional culture rich in national identity. Notably, Cao Son area is located at an altitude of nearly 2,000m above sea level, surrounded by the majestic Pha He and Pha Chien mountain ranges. The average annual temperature here is from 15 - 20°C, the climate is cool all year round and there are 4 seasons in a day; in winter, there are days when the temperature drops to 0°C. Therefore, many tourists coming here have compared Cao Son to a miniature "Sa Pa". In recent years, local people have been exploiting the available potential to develop tourism, attracting visitors from all over the world to visit and relax. This is a factor that contributes to solving the employment problem, increasing people's income, thereby positively affecting the local poverty reduction effort.

In order to awaken the tourism potential, Lung Cao commune has issued a plan "Developing tourism in Lung Cao commune in the period of 2021-2025". And in recent years, the local Party Committee and government have focused on mobilizing, encouraging and creating conditions for people to do community tourism. At the same time, coordinating with specialized departments and offices of Ba Thuoc district and connecting businesses to open training courses on tourism, preserving and promoting traditional cultural values ​​for people. Currently, in the commune, there are 3 businesses investing in homestay tourism; 2 households running community eco-lodges. In 2024 and the first 3 months of 2025, the accommodation establishments in the commune welcomed 1,659 tourists, with revenue reaching nearly 4 billion VND. “To develop tourism in Lung Cao commune, the locality hopes that all levels and sectors will continue to pay attention to investing in developing transport infrastructure in the area. At the same time, support people to preserve and promote the unique cultural features of ethnic minorities here; create conditions for local children to go to school and receive professional training to improve their knowledge of tourism development; strengthen promotion and attract businesses to invest in tourism development in Cao Son” - Vice Chairman of Lung Cao Commune People's Committee shared more.
