On April 11, a shooting occurred at a family funeral in the US capital Washington, leaving one person dead and three injured.
Police said the incident took place at around 12:30 p.m. local time in Northeast Washington.
Speaking to reporters, Police Chief Robert Contee confirmed that at least four people were shot. One man died at the scene and three people - two men and one woman - were taken to the hospital in critical condition.
According to Chief Contee, it is likely that the shooter aimed at a number of specific targets. Authorities are currently verifying the motive as well as searching for the perpetrator .
The incident occurred a day after five people were killed and eight others injured in a shooting at a bank in downtown Louisville, Kentucky. Police shot and killed the gunman, who was an employee at the bank.
According to statistics from the Gun Violence Archive website, since the beginning of 2023, there have been 147 mass shootings in the US. More than 11,650 people have died due to gun violence in just the past few months.
