Roland Garros 2025 Semi-Finals Confirmed: Surprise for Italian Players

The Roland Garros quarter-finals took place in the early morning of June 5 and determined the four best players to enter the men's singles semi-finals.

They are Italian No. 1 seed Jannik Sinner, Spanish No. 2 seed Carlos Alcaraz, Italian No. 8 seed Lorenzo Musetti, and Serbian No. 6 seed Novak Djokovic. Thus, the Roland Garros final round has two Italian players.

This is the first time in 65 years that two Italians have reached the semi-finals of a Grand Slam. At the 1960 French Open, two Italians, Orlando Sirola and Nicola Pietrangeli, reached the semi-finals. Nicola Pietrangeli went on to win the title.

In the quarter-finals, Sinner easily defeated Alexander Bublik (Kazakhstan) 6-1, 7-5 and 6-0. Similarly, Carlos Alcaraz only needed the first 3 games to defeat Tommy Paul (USA) with the scores 6-0, 6-1, 6-4.

Lorenzo Musetti had a bit more trouble when he needed 4 sets to defeat American opponent Frances Tiafoe (seed number 15).

Meanwhile, Novak Djokovic was the last name to win a ticket to the semi-finals when he defeated German third seed Alexander Zverev 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-4. This is the 13th time Djokovic has reached the Roland Garros semi-finals after 21 times participating.

In the semi-finals, Djokovic will face a big challenge when he faces world number 1 Sinner. Djokovic and Sinner have a fairly balanced head-to-head record, with each player winning 4 matches in 8 previous matches.

The other semi-final will be between Lorenzo Musetti and Carlos Alcaraz. The Spaniard is the favorite and is likely to win. In their previous six meetings, Alcaraz has won five times against Musetti.

The 2025 Roland Garros semi-finals will take place on June 6.
