Family is the cell of society, an important environment to preserve, educate and transmit national cultural values to its members. Our Party has determined the leadership viewpoint of "building happy and progressive families as healthy and solid cells of society".

In the article “Proud and confident under the glorious flag of the Party, determined to build an increasingly rich, civilized, cultured and heroic Vietnam”, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong continued to emphasize one of the Party's guidelines in the 13th term: “Building a healthy cultural lifestyle; preventing moral and lifestyle degradation and paying more attention to preventing and combating domestic violence, child abuse and social evils”. This is a specific, practical and humane orientation for caring for Vietnamese families.
Economic and political changes will inevitably impact and change value systems. In the transition period from traditional agricultural society to modern society, Vietnamese families are undergoing strong changes. In the economy, families are changing from "production units" to "consumption units". Looking at Vietnamese marriage and family today, we can immediately see that traditional values are gradually being replaced by modern values.
However, this change is not uniform. Families in areas with a later level of modernization (such as older, less educated, lower living standards, ethnic minorities, living in rural areas, less developed socio-economic areas) tend to support and preserve traditional family views more than young, urban families with modern characteristics.
Most families continue to regard marriage as an important value. Moral values such as fidelity, love, sharing, and filial piety are still Vietnamese family highly appreciated. However, according to statistical research by the Institute for Family and Gender Studies (Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences), divorce has increased steadily over the past 20 years. Domestic violence has decreased but is more complicated among children, the elderly, etc.
In the context of the new situation, the 13th Party Congress Document also set many goals in family building, clearly stating the importance of building a prosperous, progressive, happy, civilized family; building people who are compassionate, tolerant, sincere, trustworthy, ethical, diligent, hardworking, thrifty, creative, and modern, thereby building an advanced Vietnamese culture with a strong national identity...
Directive No. 06-CT/TW dated June 24, 2021 of the Secretariat continues to affirm that family building is both a goal and a driving force for the country's sustainable development. These are important orientations for determining goals and solutions for building Vietnamese families in the new period. From the direction of the General Secretary, all levels and sectors need to pay attention to building and implementing appropriate and effective policies to preserve the identity and promote the good traditional values of Vietnamese families, contributing to the long-term stable development of the country.
The rapid, complex and diverse transformation of Vietnamese family values from traditional to modern requires the building of a system of Vietnamese family values to guide social development, so that the Vietnamese family values can both absorb humanistic and progressive values in integration and preserve national identity and good traditional family values. In the current period, it is also necessary to pay attention to issues such as building a system of family support services, developing family economy, caring for specific family groups, improving the social security system for families...
