On May 31, 2025, DND Brothers International Healthcare System organized a scientific seminar with the theme "Update the latest advances in the world in 2025 in the control and treatment of refractive errors applied at DND Eye Hospital System".
Doctor Pham Thi Hang presented a report on the topic: "Comprehensive corneal examination before refractive surgery". |
This is an opportunity for experts and leading doctors in the field of ophthalmology to share and discuss advanced knowledge, modern technology and the latest techniques being applied globally and at the DND eye hospital system.
The workshop also marked DND's 14-year development journey, from its first steps with the mission of providing professional, quality vision care services and pioneering the application of modern technology in Vietnam.
Currently, DND Brothers owns a network of modern eye hospitals in Hanoi , Bac Giang, Hai Duong and will soon open DND Saigon International Eye Hospital, expanding high-quality eye care services to the Southern region. Each facility is invested in synchronous equipment and professional staff to ensure safe and effective eye care solutions.
In the context of eye health care receiving increasing attention from society, especially after the Government approved the national strategy for blindness prevention for the period 2020 - 2030, updating new techniques in ophthalmology has become an important task to improve the quality of treatment and keep up with modern medical trends.
The workshop content revolved around key topics such as comprehensive corneal examination before refractive surgery, early detection and treatment of fundus lesions in myopic patients, updating refractive surgery technology, optimal solutions for refractive treatment in presbyopic patients, and evaluating the results of Phakic surgery on patients with high myopia and astigmatism.
Refractive surgery is a key area of DND International Eye Hospital. In particular, comprehensive pre-operative corneal examination is considered an important foundation to ensure optimal accuracy and safety for each surgery.
A thorough assessment of the corneal structure helps to select the appropriate method, thereby increasing the success rate and minimizing complications. For patients with severe myopia, early detection of fundus lesions such as peripheral degeneration or the risk of retinal detachment plays a key role in protecting long-term vision.
At DND, each patient undergoes an international standard 8-step eye examination process with modern machinery such as the SCHWIND MS-39 OCT optical tomography machine, Oculus Pentacam HR machine, color fundus camera, etc. All equipment is synchronized and directly connected to the surgical machine system to ensure continuity and accuracy during the treatment process.
The report on new technology updates in refractive surgery focuses on introducing advanced methods that significantly improve vision quality. In particular, SMILE Pro technology is considered a breakthrough with a laser time of only 8 seconds, integrating ultrasonic sensors, multi-dimensional cameras and automatic eye centering systems to increase safety and surgical efficiency.
After 12 years of leading the North in VISUMAX technology, DND continues to upgrade with VISUMAX 800, one of the most modern systems in the world today. Thousands of successful surgeries with a satisfaction rate of over 98% have proven the hospital's outstanding quality.
In addition, artificial corneal transplantation technology is also introduced as a new solution for patients who are not eligible for natural corneal transplantation due to lack of corneal resources or previous failed transplantations. DND is cooperating with American experts to soon deploy this technique in Vietnam, opening up opportunities to restore vision for many patients with complex corneal diseases.
In addition to laser surgery, DND also provides a variety of other surgical methods such as Femto Lasik, SmartSurfACE, Phakic intraocular lens...
Phakic method was given special attention in the workshop with evaluations of treatment effectiveness for patients with high myopia and astigmatism, cases not suitable for traditional laser surgery. Doctors shared practical results, analyzed complications and lessons learned to improve the quality of postoperative care.
Along with the treatment of refractive errors in young people, the workshop also mentioned the optimal solution for treating refractive errors in presbyopia patients - an increasingly common problem in the community, especially in middle-aged and elderly people. DND is always a pioneer in building personalized protocols, applying modern technology to meet diverse needs, improve visual quality and patient satisfaction.
Speaking on the sidelines of the workshop, Dr. Dang Thi Nhu Quynh, Deputy Director of DND International Eye Hospital, emphasized the importance of controlling refractive errors in children, a group of people at risk of rapidly increasing myopia.
In addition to surgery, methods such as night contact lenses are of interest to many parents because of their ability to effectively control the progression of myopia. At the same time, limiting exposure to electronic devices and applying the 20-20-20 rule are also recommended to reduce eye strain and limit the progression of refractive errors.
Although there are many diverse treatment methods, choosing the right solution requires careful consultation based on each patient's condition. Not all medical facilities are qualified to apply modern techniques, so patients and their families need to find reputable centers such as DND with a team of highly specialized doctors and modern, synchronous equipment.
Closing the workshop, Dr. Nguyen Dang Dung, Director of DND International Eye Hospital, affirmed that DND is always a pioneer in updating the most advanced technologies to bring modern treatment solutions and diverse options suitable for each patient. The team of experienced doctors, long-term commitment and modern equipment system are the strengths that help us serve millions of patients nationwide."
In addition to the goal of updating professional knowledge, DND Brothers International Healthcare System also organizes the program "Summer SMILE Days DND 2025" - a gratitude program with many incentives to help patients access new technologies and techniques without worrying about costs, contributing to improving the quality of comprehensive eye health care for the community.
