The history and heroic traditions are always promoted and continued by the young generation in Hoa Binh . Photo: New recruits of Kim Boi district before leaving for military service at the military handover ceremony in 2025.
In the peaceful and cozy courtyard of the house, pouring a cup of strong tea, Major General Bui Dinh Phai, former Commander of the Provincial Military Command, thoughtfully shared what he was thinking: 50 years have passed, but the image of the red flag with yellow star flying over the Independence Palace affirming the defeat of the US imperialists and their lackeys is still fresh in the minds of us soldiers and generations of Vietnamese people. From that historic moment, the two regions of the North and the South reunited under one roof, peace and unification became a reality throughout the entire country of Vietnam. In the common victory of the whole nation, the army and people of all ethnic groups in Hoa Binh province also made worthy contributions...
Major General Bui Dinh Phai recounted: Responding to President Ho Chi Minh 's call "Nothing is more precious than independence and freedom" with the spirit of "All for the front line, all to defeat the American invaders", during the resistance war against the US, the people of all ethnic groups in Hoa Binh province mobilized the highest human and material resources to support the great front line in the South. Among them were many typical examples that we heard about when we joined the army and went to the front line. For example, Mrs. Bui Thi Ngau in Luong Son district had her first child injured in battle, losing an arm, but she still applied for her second child to join the army and voluntarily supported the army with a buffalo. Mrs. Hoang Thi Mai, also in Luong Son district, when sending her child off to fight, she said before the district Military Service Council: "To fight against the US to save the country, there must be life and death, I am ready to give my child to the Party. My child is like a bullet, I request the Party to use it to hit the target". Or like Mr. Bui Van Thien in Hoa Binh town, although he was blind in both eyes and had only one son who was the main breadwinner, he was still happy to see his son off to the army... "Those noble actions are not only a shining symbol of revolutionary heroism during the difficult and arduous years of resistance against the US to save the country. They are also the pride of every soldier in our homeland, Muong land. That is the motivation for us to overcome all hardships and sacrifices, to be resilient in combat and victory", Major General Bui Dinh Phai was moved.
According to statistics, during the 21 years of the resistance war against the US to save the country, the whole Hoa Binh province had 11,460 young men enlisting in the army, 15,670 youth volunteers participating in combat service in all battlefields. Of which, 1,440 families had 2 or more children joining the army. A typical case is that of Mrs. Dinh Thi Mui in Xuat Hoa commune (Lac Son), although she had 3 children joining the army, fighting on the front line, the 4th child was not yet old enough to join the military service but she still registered and wrote a volunteer application in blood for her child to continue to join the fight.
Sharing the fire with the great front line in the South, during the resistance war, the army and people of all ethnic groups in Hoa Binh province fought and coordinated in 683 battles, shot down 49 planes, captured enemy pilots and achieved many outstanding feats. The feats were full of creativity and intelligence of the army and people of Hoa Binh such as: shooting down low-flying planes with infantry guns of the army and people of Lien Hoa (Lac Son), Muong Chieng, Trung Thanh (Da Bac), My Hoa (Tan Lac), Mong Hoa (Hoa Binh city), the coordination and cooperation in capturing enemy pilots, fighting back the rescue force in Doi Bu (Luong Son)... contributed significantly to the army and people of the whole country in defeating the war of aggression of the US imperialists.
The 21-year resistance war against the US was extremely arduous, many people could not complete the war, but the contributions of blood, youth and youth of the Muong people to the historic victory on April 30, 1975 are still engraved...
