Xuan Son makes an appointment with the Vietnamese team to rematch Malaysia

On his personal page, striker Nguyen Xuan Son attracted attention when he briefly wrote “March 31, 2026”. This is the time of the second leg match between Vietnam and Malaysia in the final qualifying round of the 2027 Asian Cup.

The Brazilian striker is eager to return to the Vietnam national team to play a decisive match against Malaysia. Currently, the Nam Dinh FC player can return to training with the ball on the field. He needs about 3-4 more months to practice normally with his teammates.

Thus, if he recovers well, Xuan Son can return to competition from next October. He will have enough time to reach his best form before joining the Vietnamese team to welcome Malaysia at home.

Nguyen Xuan Son’s return is perhaps the biggest hope for the Vietnamese team. Before suffering a broken leg, he was the top scorer for the “Golden Star Warriors” as well as Nam Dinh Club.

After the heavy defeat against Malaysia, the Vietnamese team temporarily ranked second in Group F with 3 points. Meanwhile, Malaysia rose to the top with 6 points (winning 2-0 against Nepal and 4-0 against the Vietnamese team).

According to the regulations of the final round of the 2027 Asian Cup, only the group winners will qualify directly for the final round. The priority ranking criteria are points, head-to-head record, goal difference, and goals scored.

Thus, to have a chance to continue, the Vietnamese team must win the remaining matches, in which the rematch against Malaysia must be won by more than 4 goals. This is a very difficult task, but coach Kim Sang Sik believes that he and his students will create a miracle.

This afternoon (June 11), the Vietnamese team returned to Hanoi , ending a training session that lasted more than 10 days. The players returned to their clubs to prepare for the last two rounds of the V-League, the First Division and the National Cup (semi-finals).

The Vietnamese team will gather again in September, but will not participate in any tournaments. In October, coach Kim Sang Sik and his team will meet Nepal at home (October 9), away (October 14), then visit Laos (November 18), in the final qualifying round of the 2027 Asian Cup.
