Xuan Son is not nominated for the 2025 Golden Ball

Xuan Son is injured and will be out all of 2025 so he is not nominated.

At the press conference to announce the 2025 Vietnam Golden Ball Award, organized by Saigon Giai Phong newspaper, Mr. Tu said: "In the 2024 ASEAN Cup final, Xuan Son was injured and had to take a long break. In 2025, he did not participate in any match. Of course, we understand that Xuan Son's efforts are great. But if Xuan Son did not play a single match in the 2025 season and put him in the election, I think it is a bit forced."

"If Xuan Son is called up to the national team this month, he will only play one match against Laos in 2025. With such a time frame, it will be very difficult to include him in the list. If Xuan Son plays well in the 2026 season, he will certainly be on the list of nominees for the Vietnam Golden Ball next year," the VFF Vice President emphasized.

Last February, Xuan Son won the award for best foreign player at the 2024 Vietnam Golden Ball Awards Ceremony. He set a record for the player with the most goals in a season, helping Nam Dinh FC win the 2023/24 V.League. Right in his first tournament wearing the Vietnamese national team jersey, the 2024 ASEAN Cup, this striker won the title of top scorer and best player.

However, Xuan Son was not included in the list of candidates for the Vietnam Golden Ball 2025. The reason is that for most of 2024, this striker played as a foreign player. In October, Xuan Son became a Vietnamese citizen and was eligible to play for the national team in December.

By 2025, Xuan Son is eligible to compete for the Vietnam Golden Ball but is not on the nomination list. Currently, Nguyen Tien Linh is the reigning Vietnam Golden Ball 2024.
