Xiaomi is said to be preparing for the arrival of the Xiaomi 16 - a smartphone model expected to launch right after Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7.

However, the Xiaomi 16 will not compete directly with Samsung's foldable phones. Instead, it will compete with other high-end smartphones such as the Galaxy S25 or OnePlus 13s. According to sources, the Xiaomi 16 is expected to be introduced in China around September, but the global release may be delayed until early 2026, closer to the launch date of the Galaxy S26.

Xiaomi - Leica relationship continues

The first CAD renders of the Xiaomi 16 show a fairly standard design with a large square block housing the camera system. Despite its rectangular shape with rounded corners, the device is a bit thicker than expected. The camera block protrudes from the back, while the LED flash is placed on the left. The Leica branding is also present in the renders, suggesting that Xiaomi is continuing to work with the famous German camera manufacturer.

The CAD render also provides detailed information about the Xiaomi 16's specifications, including the processor, screen size, camera configuration, and battery capacity. Notably, the Xiaomi 16 will be one of the first high-end models to use the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 chip that Qualcomm is expected to launch in September, with a 25% improvement in CPU performance and a 30% increase in GPU.

The Xiaomi 16's display measures between 6.32 inches and 6.36 inches with ultra-thin bezels, although the exact size is yet to be determined. Inside, the device will be equipped with a large 6,800 mAh battery with support for 100W fast charging. In terms of the camera system, the Xiaomi 16 is rumored to have a 50 MP triple camera setup, including a periscope telephoto camera and a Leica lens.

In addition to the Xiaomi 16, the Chinese company may also launch other versions such as the Xiaomi 16 Pro and an Ultra model, but these are still just speculations at the moment.
