Mechanism to "open the way" for Vietnamese agricultural products

By the end of October 2025, Vietnam had 9 key export groups with a turnover of over 1 billion USD, bringing the total export turnover of agriculture, forestry and fishery in 10 months to 58.13 billion USD, an increase of 12.9% over the same period in 2024. Of which, wood and wood products reached 13.96 billion USD; seafood 9.31 billion USD; coffee 7.41 billion USD; vegetables and fruits 7.09 billion USD; cashew nuts 4.25 billion USD; rice 3.7 billion USD... These figures affirm Vietnam's solid position in the global agricultural supply chain.

The industry's success is not only based on natural conditions or production efforts but also on the improvement of institutions, policies and the right thinking of the Party and State. On January 28, 2022, the Prime Minister approved the Strategy for Sustainable Agricultural and Rural Development 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, with the target of an average GDP growth of 2.5-3%/year in agriculture, forestry and fishery and an increase in labor productivity of 5.5-6%/year. Other industry strategies are also being implemented synchronously, including aquaculture, livestock, forestry, crop cultivation and agricultural mechanization, to improve production capacity, added value and expand export markets.

Vietnamese agricultural products are now present in more than 190 countries and territories, contributing to making Vietnam one of the world's leading agricultural exporting powers. In particular, rice exports reached over 9 million tons, bringing in more than 5 billion USD, showing that Vietnam is not only self-sufficient in domestic food security but also makes an important contribution to global food security.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Phung Duc Tien affirmed that with the current growth momentum, the export target of 100 billion USD by 2030 is completely within reach.

Mr. Phung Duc Tien said that the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment is focusing on perfecting the institution, updating and submitting for approval all legal documents related to decentralization and delegation of power, and at the same time amending a law to remove the "bottlenecks of bottlenecks" and drastically reduce administrative procedures, creating favorable conditions for businesses and people.

“The growth potential of Vietnamese agriculture is still very large, especially when science and technology, logistics and digital transformation are deeply integrated into the production, processing and consumption of agricultural products. When infrastructure for raw material areas, cold storage, logistics systems, electricity and irrigation are invested synchronously, combined with deep processing technology, artificial intelligence and digital traceability, Vietnamese agriculture will have a leap in productivity, quality and value,” Deputy Minister Tien emphasized.

Sustainable growth, the foundation for achieving the target of 100 billion USD

Achieving the target of large export turnover depends not only on output, but also on sustainable development. The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment always sets the goal of growth going hand in hand with environmental protection, application of science and technology, organic production, circulation and emission reduction.

Recently, the Ministry announced the Project "Production of emission reduction in the crop sector in the period 2025-2035, vision to 2050" with the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by at least 15% by 2035 compared to the base year 2020 and by 2050, 100% of the main crop area will apply emission reduction cultivation processes. Localities will deploy at least 1-2 replicable emission reduction models, and pilot at least 15 models that are eligible to develop carbon credits. The emission data system will be synchronized with the National Registration System, aiming for transparency and efficiency.

These efforts help increase product value, expand export markets and meet international standards for green, low-emission agricultural production. At the same time, the development of concentrated raw material areas, the application of deep processing technology, mechanization, automation and digital transformation create the foundation for productivity, quality and competitiveness of Vietnamese agricultural products in the world market.

Deputy Director of the Department of Quality, Processing and Market Development Pham Van Duy emphasized that the presence of Vietnamese agricultural products in more than 190 countries and territories is clear evidence of the industry's production, processing and international integration capacity.

Vietnam is currently among the world’s leading exporters of many key commodities, including rice, seafood, coffee, vegetables, cashew nuts, pepper, rubber, wood and wood products. This is an important foundation for the industry to continue to grow sustainably and move towards the target of an export turnover of 100 billion USD by 2030.
