Import and export expected to set new record in 2025

At the regular Government meeting on September 6, Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien said that the import-export turnover in August is estimated at 63 billion USD, up 0.9% over the previous month. Thus, the total import-export turnover in the first 8 months of the year is nearly 600 billion USD, up 16.3% over the same period.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade forecasts that the entire year could reach the 800 billion USD mark - the highest level ever. The trade balance is expected to have a surplus of nearly 14 billion USD.

Vietnam targets a 12% annual export growth rate, equivalent to an average monthly turnover of 37.9 billion USD. According to data from the Ministry of Industry and Trade, August export turnover increased slightly by 0.6% compared to July and was 11.2% higher than the same period in 2024. Exports to the US alone decreased by 5% compared to the previous month, but the cumulative increase in the first 8 months was still 17.3%.

In the first 8 months of the year, exports reached 306 billion USD, up 14.8% over the same period. Of which, the average was about 38.2 billion USD in the first 5 months of the year, and an average of over 42 billion USD in the two months of July and August.

Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan assessed that export growth in the first eight months of the year exceeded the set target. Normally, in the last quarter of the year, export activities will have more favorable conditions in production and circulation. Therefore, the prospect of completing the yearly plan is positive.

The operator will diversify forms of trade promotion, including imports to diversify sources of raw materials for production for domestic consumption and export. At the same time, the management agency will also strengthen early warning of risks and accompany businesses when new incidents and trade barriers arise in import-export markets.
