At the meeting, Mr. Belmedrek Nouri Said, President of the Jijel Chamber of Commerce and Industry, General Director of the Metallurgical Company and Director of the Travel Company, introduced the economic and commercial potential of the province. Jijel is located more than 300 km east of the capital Algiers, is an important industrial and commercial axis of the country, with the Djien Djien seaport and Ferhat Abbas International Airport.
In 2023, 9.8 million tons of goods were transported through this seaport, an increase of 7% compared to 2022. The province has 02 industrial parks with a total area of 607 hectares. Jijel has 7,349 small and medium enterprises, 7 state-owned enterprises mainly operating in the fields of construction, trade, agriculture , fishing, transportation, ceramic production, clothing, tanning, cork wood..., 01 Algeria-Qatar joint venture company producing steel.
The provincial government is also actively implementing projects on cooking oil production, fruit and vegetable processing, etc. Jijel also has natural resources and tourism with 120 km of coastline and 50 beaches, attracting domestic and foreign investors. The Chairman of the Jijel Chamber of Commerce and Industry hopes to soon organize a business delegation to Vietnam to seek opportunities for business cooperation, investment and tourism development.
On this occasion, Commercial Counselor Hoang Duc Nhuan introduced the economic and foreign trade situation of Vietnam, the trade and investment cooperation between the two countries, provided information and invited Algerian businesses to attend fairs and exhibitions such as Vietnam Food Expo, Vietnam Expo, etc.
According to statistics from Vietnam Customs, bilateral trade will reach about 250 million USD in 2023, an increase of 68% compared to 2022. Vietnam's main export items to Algeria include raw coffee, pepper, cashew nuts, coconut rice, freshwater seafood, chemicals, iron and steel, etc. Vietnam's import items from Algeria include carob powder, chicken feet, pharmaceuticals, waste paper, minerals, etc. The two sides also agreed to soon organize an online trade seminar between Vietnamese enterprises and enterprises of Jijel province.
During his stay, the Vietnamese Trade Counselor visited the pharmaceutical manufacturing company Biorem. The company's general director wanted to find Vietnamese partners in the production of hormone-containing drugs and enterprises exporting pharmaceutical ingredients.
