Request Shopee, Lazada to stop selling functional foods without product declaration

On May 27, the Department of Food Safety ( Ministry of Health ) said that it had sent a document to Lazada Vietnam E-commerce Company Limited (No. 8, Lane 65 An Thang, Bien Giang Ward, Ha Dong District, Hanoi) and Shopee Company Limited (Floors 4-5-6, Capital Place Building, No. 29 Lieu Giai Street, Ngoc Khanh Ward, Ba Dinh District, Hanoi) regarding the suspension of selling functional foods without product declaration.

Through post-inspection of the implementation of regulations on registration of declarations and self-declarations, production and trading of functional foods, the Food Safety Department discovered a number of functional food products belonging to the health protection food group, including: Omega 3-6-9 1600mg; Natto Kinase 4000fu; Estroven - Complete Multi - Sympton; Kirkland Glucosamine 1500mg & Chondroitin 1200mg; Glucosamine 1500mg With MSM 1500mg) being advertised and traded on the Lazada e-commerce platform and the products Omega 3-6-9 1600mg; Natto Kinase 4000fu; Estroven - Complete Multi - Sympton; Kirkland Glucosamine 1500mg & Chondroitin 1200mg; Glucosamine 1500mg With MSM 1500mg is being advertised and sold on the Shopee e-commerce platform without being granted a Certificate of Product Declaration Registration.

To ensure the health and rights of users as well as the production and trading of functional foods in compliance with the provisions of law, the Department of Food Safety has issued an official dispatch requesting Lazada and Shopee to urgently review the business and electronic transactions of functional food products, and only trade in functional food products that have been granted a Certificate of Registration of Product Declaration by a competent state management agency or have been published on the Food Safety Update Data Information System as prescribed.

Lazada Vietnam strictly implements Official Dispatch No. 2791/ATTP-SP (dated November 14, 2024) sent by the Food Safety Department regarding the management of functional food business on e-commerce. The authorities also requested the company to immediately stop business and remove information about the product Omega 3-6-9 1600mg; Taisho Pabron Gold A- No. 1 Japan Flu; Natto Kinase 4000fu; Estroven - Complete Multi Sympton; Kirkland Glucosamine 1500mg & Chondroitin 1200mg; Glucosamine 1500mg With MSM 1500mg.

Meanwhile, Shopee strictly implements Official Dispatch No. 2791/ATTP-SP (dated November 14, 2024) on the management of functional food business on e-commerce. This company must immediately stop business and remove information about the product Omega 3-6-9 1600mg; Taisho Pabron Gold A- No. 1 Japan Flu; Natto Kinase 4000fu; Estroven Complete Multi Sympton; Kirkland Glucosamine 1500mg & Chondroitin 1200mg; Glucosamine 1500mg With MSM 1500mg.

The Food Safety Department requires the two companies to report the results in writing to this unit before May 30, 2025./.
