YouTube launches new AI tools to boost content creation

Among the newly announced tools, the most notable is Veo - an AI video generation technology developed by Google DeepMind lab, which is being integrated directly into YouTube.

On September 16, YouTube announced Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools for content creators, and said it has spent more than $100 billion on the community over the past four years.

Speaking at an event in New York (USA), YouTube CEO Neal Mohan described AI as a “step forward” to promote creativity and storytelling on the video -sharing platform, not to replace the central role of humans. New products integrated with AI support will shape the next 20 years of YouTube.

AI are tools designed “to nurture human creativity — nothing more, nothing less,” Mr. Mohan asserted.

Among the newly announced tools, the most notable is Veo - an AI video generation technology developed by Google DeepMind lab, which is being integrated directly into YouTube.

With Veo, content creators can easily create moving backgrounds for short videos (Shorts), competing with TikTok and Instagram Reels.

New AI tools will also let creators combine a photo with a video, making it appear as if the person in the photo is participating in the action.

YouTube is also aiming to support podcasters, allowing them to create video versions of their original audio-only podcast episodes.

Additionally, translation capabilities will also leverage AI to not only translate what is being said in the video, but also make it look like the subject is actually speaking that language.

Faced with the growing threat of AI-based deepfakes, YouTube said it will soon test a new tool that will allow creators to detect videos that use AI to impersonate them.
