On the afternoon of July 10, health authorities discovered another girl who tested positive for diphtheria (from Hoa Binh province). Thus, to date, there has been 1 death and 2 positive cases under treatment.
According to information from the Center for Disease Control (CDC) of Bac Giang province, among the 8 F1 cases whose first test samples were negative, by the afternoon of July 10, 1 case tested positive when the second test sample was sent.
As reported by SGGP, after discovering that Moong Thi B. (born in 2006, from Ky Son district, Nghe An province) was positive (F0) for diphtheria, the CDC of Bac Giang province immediately admitted, took samples (first time) and quarantined 8 F1 cases (close contact or living together). On July 9, the Central Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology reported that all 8 of these cases were negative.
However, on July 9, the CDC of Bac Giang province and the Medical Center of Hiep Hoa district (Bac Giang) continued to take samples a second time from related cases to send to Hanoi for testing.
Through analysis of test samples, by the afternoon of July 10, the Central Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology determined that there was one more case positive for diphtheria.
The new case is Bui Huong G., born in 1995, temporarily residing in Trung Hoa village, Mai Trung commune, Hiep Hoa district, Bac Giang province; permanently residing in Yen Phu commune, Lac Son district, Hoa Binh province. Bui Huong G. is one of 16 F1 cases who had close contact with case Moong Thi B. (positive, being treated at the Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Hanoi) and is one of 8 F1 cases that tested negative in the first test (July 9). According to the Bac Giang Provincial CDC, the remaining samples still tested negative.
As soon as the result was positive, on the afternoon of July 10, G. was transferred to the Central Tropical Hospital (branch 2) for treatment.
Investigating the epidemiology of Bui Huong G., the CDC of Bac Giang province and the authorities determined that from July 2 to 5, G. went to an internet cafe in Trung Tam village and had dinner with Moong Thi B. From about 11:30 p.m. on July 3 to 2:50 a.m. on July 4, G. went to the Song Que karaoke bar near Cau Vat (Hop Thinh commune) to sing and drink beer with 3 guests (not yet traced). On July 7, when he learned that B. was positive for diphtheria, G. declared the epidemic at the Hop Thinh commune health station and then went to quarantine in a rented room in Trung Hoa village.
