2 urgent dispatches to respond to tropical depression and heavy rain

On August 15, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Nguyen Hoang Hiep signed two official dispatches to the People's Committees of provinces and cities requesting preparations to respond to adverse weather developments caused by heavy rain and tropical depressions.

GFS (USA) forecast model predicts that on the morning of August 16, a tropical depression will form in the East Sea.

The first document was sent to the People's Committees of coastal provinces and cities from Quang Ninh to An Giang , stating that a low pressure area has formed in the middle of the East Sea.

At 1:00 p.m. on August 15, the low pressure was at about 13.5 - 14.5 degrees North latitude and 113.5 - 114.5 degrees East longitude, forecast to move slowly in the North-Northwest direction and likely to strengthen into a tropical depression.

The Ministry requested localities from Quang Ninh to An Giang to closely monitor forecast bulletins, notify ships at sea to proactively avoid, ensure safety of people and property, maintain communication, prepare rescue forces and means, and be on duty seriously, and report regularly.

Many localities are at risk of heavy rain due to prolonged bad weather.

The second document was sent to the People's Committees of provinces and cities in the Northeast, Central and Southern regions, warning of heavy rain from August 15 to 18, with rainfall of 70-150mm in the Northeast, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An (over 300mm in some places), in the Central Highlands and the South, 50-100mm in some places, over 200mm in some places, with the risk of floods, inundation, flash floods, and landslides.

The Ministry recommends that localities in the Northeast, Central and Southern regions closely monitor forecasts, deploy forces to inspect and review residential areas along rivers and streams, low-lying areas, organize evacuation when necessary, control traffic in dangerous areas, ensure safety of key works, proactively drain water to protect production, increase information on media and be ready for rescue.

Both dispatches were sent urgently to localities, authorities and the press, requesting proactive implementation to minimize human and property damage to people in the face of extreme weather developments.

On the same afternoon, Mr. Hoang Phuc Lam, Deputy Director of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, informed that during the last 2 days of the week, a tropical depression may appear in the East Sea, with rain in many places.
