212 projects participated in the National Science and Technology Competition for high school students

On the afternoon of March 14, Mr. Ho Tan Minh, Chief of Office of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, said that in 3 days (March 19, 20, 21, 2025), at Ton Duc Thang University, the Ministry of Education and Training in coordination with the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City and the Department of Education and Training of the city will organize the National Science and Technology Competition for high school students in the 2024-2025 school year.

In the 2024-2025 school year, the competition will have the participation of 62/63 Departments of Education and Training and 12 units of universities, colleges, institutes, and research institutes with high schools; high schools under ministries and ministerial-level agencies.

This year, the competition had a total of 212 participating projects, including 23 individual projects, 189 group projects; 190 projects by high school students and 22 projects by middle school students. A total of 401 students participated, including 358 high school students and 43 middle school students.

The contest is a useful playground for high school students to have the opportunity to participate in research, demonstrate their abilities, thinking and creativity.

This year's competition projects are in 22 fields, including: Animal Science , Social and Behavioral Sciences, Biochemistry, Biomedical and Health Sciences, Biomedical Engineering, Cellular and Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Computational Biology and Bioinformatics, Earth and Environmental Sciences, Embedded Systems, Chemical Energy, Physical Energy, Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Materials Science, Mathematics, Microbiology, Physics and Astronomy, Plant Science, Robotics and Intelligent Machines, Systems Software, Translational Medicine.

The National Science and Technology Competition for high school students was first organized by the Ministry of Education and Training in 2013. Since then, the competition has been held once a year in the second semester of the school year. From 2013 to 2019, the competition was held at two locations in the North and South with 4-6 projects/units participating and was held in different localities.

From 2020 to 2024, the competition will reduce the number of participating projects (2 projects/contesting unit; Hanoi , Ho Chi Minh City and the competition host unit are allowed to participate in 4 projects) and will be held in one locality across the country (in 2022, the competition will be held online due to the Covid-19 pandemic).

In 2025, the first Science and Technology Competition will be held according to the provisions of Circular 06/2024/TT-BGDDT issued by the Ministry of Education and Training on April 10, 2024. Accordingly, the participating units are the Departments of Education and Training, each participating unit can register a maximum of 3 competition projects; the Departments of Education and Training of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, each unit can register a maximum of 6 competition projects. For participating units that are schools under the ministry, universities, colleges, institutes, and academies, each unit can register a maximum of 2 competition projects. The unit hosting the competition can register a maximum of 6 competition projects; the unit hosting the competition is the Department of Education and Training of Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City, each unit can register a maximum of 12 competition projects.

The Ministry of Education and Training selects the highest-winning projects and those that are qualified to participate in the International Science and Technology Competition for high school students scheduled to take place in May 2025 in the United States.
