3 regulations to know when registering for military service for the first time from 2025

Military service is the responsibility of every citizen. Citizens registering for military service for the first time must register directly at the military service registration agency specified in Article 15 of the Law on Military Service.

Regulations for first-time military service registration that you need to know

According to Article 16 of the 2015 Law on Military Service on first-time military service registration as follows:

First: Every January, the Chairman of the People's Committee at the commune level, the head or legal representative of the agency or organization reports to the District Military Command the list of male citizens who are 17 years old in the year and male citizens of military service age who have not registered for military service.

Second: Every April, the Commander of the District Military Command issues an order to call citizens specified in Clause 1 of this Article to register for military service for the first time.

Third: Citizens registering for military service for the first time must register directly at the military service registration agency specified in Article 15 of this Law.

Military service registration agency

Article 15 of the 2015 Law on Military Service stipulates the military service registration agency.

1. The Commune Military Command carries out military service registration for citizens residing in the locality.

2. The Military Command of agencies and organizations at the grassroots level shall register military service for citizens working and studying at the agency or organization and compile reports for the Military Command of the district, town, city under the province and equivalent administrative units (hereinafter referred to as district level) where the agency or organization is headquartered;

In case an agency or organization does not have a Military Command at the grassroots level, the head or legal representative of the agency or organization is responsible for organizing for citizens to register for military service at their place of residence.

Thus, military service registration is carried out according to the above regulations.

Cases recognized as having completed military service in peacetime

- Regular militiamen with at least 24 months of service will be recognized as having completed their military service in peacetime, as decided by the Commander of the District Military Command upon the proposal of the Chairman of the Commune People's Committee or the village chief where there is no commune-level administrative unit, or the head of an agency or organization;

- Completed the task of participating in the Commune Police continuously for 36 months or more;

- Cadres, civil servants, public employees, university graduates or higher, who have been trained and awarded the rank of reserve officer;

- Young people who have graduated from university, college, or intermediate school volunteer to serve in economic -defense groups for 24 months or more according to the Project decided by the Prime Minister;

- Citizens serving on fishing control vessels for 24 months or more.
