50/115 markets change market management model

On the afternoon of March 20, the Economic - Budget Committee of the Provincial People's Council continued to survey the management and development of the market at Vinh Long market and worked with the Department of Industry and Trade.

The province currently has 115 markets (1 class I market; 17 class II markets; 97 class III markets and temporary markets). Up to now, 50/115 markets have been converted to enterprise models, cooperatives for business, market exploitation and management.

Of which, 23 enterprises manage 35 markets, 11 cooperatives manage 15 markets. The conversion of market management model contributes to increasing budget revenue, reducing investment capital for construction, upgrading and repairing markets every year; enterprises and cooperatives proactively exploit and invest in building markets in a civilized and modern direction, ensuring regulations on food hygiene and safety, fire prevention, etc.

However, the arrangement of businesses by product line in the markets is not suitable, the market space has not been fully exploited, some degraded construction items have not been repaired in time, affecting small traders in the market; there is also the situation of encroachment on public walkways, the frustration of small traders with the activities of spontaneous markets...

Ms. Le Thi Thuy Kieu - Vice Chairwoman of the Provincial People's Council recommended that it is necessary to pay attention to the planning and development of the market system; carefully evaluate the current types of market exploitation and management, to deploy and exploit effectively; pay attention to directing propaganda to ensure aesthetics, food safety, fire prevention and fighting, and orienting traders to change their business forms; pay attention to regular monitoring and inspection to promptly grasp difficulties and problems to advise the Provincial People's Committee; strengthen coordination between localities, market management boards, enterprises and market exploitation cooperatives.
