On September 18, a representative of Kon Ka Kinh National Park ( Gia Lai ) said that the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment has decided to recognize 6 banyan trees in the forest area managed by the unit as Vietnam heritage trees. These are rare "green treasures" of the Central Highlands mountains and forests.

Mr. Ngo Van Thang, Director of Kon Ka Kinh National Park, said that the six heritage trees that have just been recognized are distributed in lot 1, plot 4, sub-area 433B and lot 3, plot 2, sub-area 433A.
The above-mentioned banyan trees are all ancient trees with ages ranging from 218 to 300 years, with an average height of 32 to 42 m. Not only do they possess a towering, sturdy appearance in the middle of the forest, they also have special ecological value, closely linked to the history of formation and development of the Kon Ka Kinh forest ecosystem.
"This is a valuable genetic resource, of great significance in preserving biodiversity in the Central Highlands," Mr. Thang affirmed.

According to the decision of the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment, these heritage trees will receive professional advice on care to prolong their lifespan. At the same time, images and information about the 6 heritage trees will also be widely promoted on the association's media.
"The recognition of heritage trees not only contributes to protecting the forest ecosystem, but also raises public awareness in preserving natural treasures. In the coming time, Kon Ka Kinh National Park will step up propaganda and open its doors to tourists to visit and admire these heritage trees," said Mr. Thang.
With hundreds of years of age, the heritage trees in Kon Ka Kinh are not only ecological heritages, but also witnesses of the mountains and forests, contributing to creating a unique identity for the nature of the Central Highlands. The recognition of 6 heritage trees this time continues to affirm the importance of conservation work, while opening up opportunities for sustainable ecotourism development in Gia Lai.
