Permanent Vice Chairman of Hue City People's Committee Nguyen Thanh Binh directed the repair of the broken dike in Quang Dien commune.

In recent days, prolonged heavy rains have caused many low-lying areas in Quang Dien to be deeply flooded. A series of rural traffic routes, schools and civil works have been damaged and degraded. In particular, the dike section from Niem Pho village (Quang Dien commune) to Nho Lam village (Dan Dien commune) was eroded by strong currents, breaking the dike surface about 7m wide, completely cutting off traffic.

This is a riverside dike combined with a traffic route that plays an important role in preventing water, ensuring travel connections for people, and is also a vital route connecting the old Quang Tho commune to the center of Hue city, especially during the rainy season. Immediately after the incident, the local authorities erected barriers, prohibiting people and vehicles from passing through to ensure safety.

Mr. Le Ngai, a resident living along the dike, shared: "I hope the government will soon fix it so that people can travel more conveniently."

Directly inspecting the scene, Permanent Vice Chairman of Hue City People's Committee Nguyen Thanh Binh requested departments and branches to closely coordinate with local authorities to urgently fix the problem, first patching the dike with stone cages. Permanent Vice Chairman of Hue City People's Committee emphasized: "All forces and means must take drastic action, completing the route on November 5 to ensure traffic and serve the travel needs of the people."

In addition, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh assigned the locality to review and evaluate the entire current state of the dike, promptly detect weak points, and prevent further incidents from occurring in the future. In the long term, it is necessary to prepare a comprehensive report and submit it to the City People's Committee for consideration of investment plans and fundamental handling of low-lying roads that are prone to flooding.

On the morning of November 4, the Quang Dien commune government mobilized forces, vehicles, and boulders to urgently reinforce the broken dike section, determined to complete it on schedule according to the direction of the city leaders.

Mr. Nguyen Anh Cau, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Dien Commune, said: "Determining this as a vital and important dike route, the locality has mobilized maximum human and material resources to soon open the route, creating conditions for people to travel safely."

In addition to the dike breach, many areas in Quang Dien commune are still flooded. As of November 3, the locality has evacuated 56 households with 87 people to safety; more than 3,000 houses are still flooded from 0.1 to 0.7 meters deep.

The Standing Vice Chairman of the Hue City People's Committee also requested that the locality continue to review and fully count the damage to housing, agricultural production, schools and people's infrastructure to have timely support and solutions. At the same time, it is necessary to strengthen general environmental sanitation, disinfection, disease prevention after floods, mobilize forces to help people clean up their houses, restore production, and soon stabilize their lives.
