The mark of a resilient school amidst bombs and bullets of war

Tien Cat Secondary School (Thanh Mieu Ward, Phu Tho Province) was established in August 1965, in the midst of a fierce war. In the early days, the school was just a thatched roof with bamboo and leaves built by the people of Tien Cat. The first principal was Mr. Le Hung Thang and 14 teachers who laid a solid foundation for the school in challenging circumstances.

During the period 1965 - 1972, when American bombs were dropped on the North, teachers and students had to evacuate many times to the areas of Thi Dua, Go Sua, Go Giai, and Anh Dung. Students wore straw hats to school and hid in the basement when the alarm sounded. The classrooms were just earthen cellars with simple thatched roofs and boards made from palm leaves... but the "Two Goods" and "Small Plans" movements were still maintained strongly, creating pages of history full of hardship but rich in pride.

In the period 1979 - 1980, Tien Cat Primary and Secondary School was established. Although the facilities were still lacking and the road to the school was steep and rocky, Tien Cat still became the leading flag of the education sector of Viet Tri city (old).

In 1988, the school was officially named Tien Cat Secondary School, marking a new stage of maturity. Since the 1990s, the school has been invested in building high-rise buildings, subject classrooms, libraries and modern equipment, opening a period of strong innovation.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Luu Van Bay - Principal of Tien Cat Secondary School emphasized: The resilient spirit of generations of students wearing straw hats to school amidst bombs and bullets in the past is the core value that helps the school overcome all difficulties and develop steadily over the past six decades.

During its 60-year journey, the school has welcomed many generations of students, with more than 42,000 students having grown up here. Many generations of students have grown up to hold important positions in the Party and the State.

In recent years, the school's educational work has had many innovations associated with developing students' capacity and qualities; enhancing experiential activities, and applying information technology in teaching.

Along with that, facilities, functional classrooms, and teaching equipment are invested synchronously, creating a modern and friendly learning environment. Thanks to specific solutions, innovative teaching methods and forms, testing and evaluation, the quality of education at Tien Cat Secondary School is increasingly improved.

In the last 5 school years, the school's junior high school graduation rate has been over 99%, and the high school graduation rate has been over 49%. The average score for the 10th grade entrance exam in the 2025-2026 school year is 6.29 points. In particular, the average Literature score is ranked 2nd in the old city of Viet Tri.
