On the afternoon of July 6, in Hanoi, the Department of Maternal and Child Health ( Ministry of Health ) launched a communication campaign to prevent reproductive tract infections with the theme "20 million Vietnamese women: Proper gynecology - Complete happiness". The campaign aims to help millions of women of different ages across the country access and equip themselves with correct and useful knowledge about how to take care of their gynecological health, thereby improving their reproductive health and quality of life.

According to statistics from the Ministry of Health, currently up to 90% of Vietnamese women suffer from gynecological diseases. Notably, the number of gynecological diseases increases by 15% -27% each year. Among gynecological diseases, vaginitis is the disease that women suffer from most often. What is worrying is the trend of this disease getting younger, not only in married women but also in young women who have never had sex. Along with the existing risks, factors related to the environment, social life or lack of proper knowledge in cleaning sensitive areas as well as sexeducation also cause some types of gynecological diseases to increase in young women.

A very worrying issue today is the fear of many women when they have vaginitis. Accordingly, most women when sick, despite feeling uncomfortable, initial symptoms... but still try to endure, often have a fear, self-treat instead of going to the doctor. Only when the disease progresses to a severe stage will they go to the hospital, but at that time the treatment will be expensive, time-consuming and can leave serious consequences affecting the reproductive health of women. Moreover, prevention is better than cure, providing adequate knowledge so that women are aware of the negative effects of gynecological diseases and proactively practice disease prevention is very important.

In order to contribute to reducing the above situation, the campaign "20 million Vietnamese women: Proper gynecology - Complete happiness" has built a series of consulting activities and communication seminars on reproductive health care for women aged 18 to 25 and 25 to 45 in cities across the country. In addition, the campaign also provides knowledge sharing sessions between members of the Vietnam Women's Union.

At the launching ceremony, MSc. Dr. Duong Thi Hai Ngoc, Department of Maternal and Child Health, said that gynecological diseases are genital tract infections (RTIs) in women (inflammation of the vulva, vagina, cervix, uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes) due to various causes. Worldwide , there are an estimated 340 million new cases of STIs each year.

The cause of gynecological diseases is due to exogenous factors, due to bacteria and microorganisms entering the reproductive tract through medical interventions that do not ensure sterility. Due to unsafe sex: in addition to unprotected sex, rough sex also damages the vagina. Bacteria and microorganisms from the anus and male genitals can penetrate deep into the female vagina and create conditions for pathogens to develop.

According to MSc. Dr. Duong Thi Hai Ngoc, to prevent reproductive tract infections and gynecological diseases, the best preventive measure is to prevent new infections, according to 3 groups of causes. Prevention of endogenous infections includes changing living habits, proper hygiene, improving the environment and living conditions. Limiting and preventing exogenous infections, complying with sterile procedures and professional procedures; going to a reliable and safe medical facility for examination and treatment... Practicing safe sex, preventing sexually transmitted diseases by being monogamous, using condoms, and not having sex while suffering from reproductive tract infections or gynecological diseases.

Sharing at the program, Deputy Director of the Department of Maternal and Child Health Tran Dang Khoa said: “Raising awareness and improving reproductive health care for women is a goal that the Ministry of Health always cares about. Through a series of diverse activities such as communication, consultation, training, etc., the Organizing Committee hopes that Vietnamese women will receive better care for their gynecological and reproductive health, thereby gaining more confidence to balance their missions as mothers and wives, while achieving many successes in their work, helping women to be completely happy”.

At the series of activities of the campaign "20 million Vietnamese women: Gynecology in the right way - Complete happiness", participants have the opportunity to access accurate and reliable information from leading experts and doctors in the field of obstetrics and gynecology, receive advice and have their questions answered. From there, the campaign hopes to not only help women of all ages equip themselves with knowledge and skills to be more confident in solving problems related to gynecological diseases and reproductive health, but also contribute to positively impacting the awareness of the surrounding community./.
