ADMM+ 2025 kicks off in India, tightening counter-terrorism cooperation

India and Malaysia co-chaired the 14th ASEAN Defense Ministers' Meeting Plus (ADMM+) on Counter-Terrorism from March 19-20 in New Delhi.

The Conference was attended by delegations from 10 ASEAN member countries (Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Vietnam, Singapore and Thailand) and official dialogue partners (Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, Japan, China, the United States and Russia), along with Timor Leste and the ASEAN Secretariat.

This is the first time that India and Malaysia are co-chairing the Expert Working Group (EWG) on Counter-Terrorism. This year’s meeting marks the beginning of the EWG’s 2024-2027 cycle. The discussions will focus on developing a comprehensive and effective strategy to counter radical terrorism.

The conference also aims to share practical experiences of defense forces of ASEAN countries and dialogue partners, and lay the foundation for exercises, seminars and thematic conferences in the 2024-2027 period.

ADMM+ is ASEAN's highest multilateral defense cooperation mechanism, focusing on seven areas: counter-terrorism; maritime security; humanitarian assistance and disaster relief; peacekeeping operations; military medicine; mine clearance; and cyber security. The EWG was established to promote cooperation in these areas.
