An Giang: Exhibition of propaganda paintings to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the first general election to elect the Vietnamese National Assembly

From November 14-19, at the National Hero Nguyen Trung Truc Monument Park (Rach Gia ward, An Giang province), an exhibition of 150 large-scale propaganda posters took place to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the first General Election to elect the Vietnamese National Assembly.

Delegates cut the ribbon to open the Exhibition of large-scale propaganda posters commemorating the 80th anniversary of the first general election to elect the Vietnamese National Assembly .

On November 14, at the National Hero Nguyen Trung Truc Monument Park (Rach Gia Ward), the Department of Culture and Sports of An Giang in coordination with the Department of Grassroots Culture, Family and Library (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) opened the exhibition of large-scale propaganda posters to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the first General Election to elect the National Assembly of Vietnam (January 6, 1946 - January 6, 2026).

According to the Organizing Committee, the 80th anniversary of the first General Election to elect the Vietnamese National Assembly is an opportunity for the entire Party, people and army to review the history of formation and development; and affirm the great achievements that our National Assembly has achieved over the past 80 years.

At the exhibition, the Organizing Committee introduced 150 propaganda paintings by professional and amateur artists nationwide, selected from the propaganda painting contest to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the first General Election to elect the Vietnamese National Assembly, organized by the Department of Grassroots Culture, Family and Library.

Through language, images and colors, the propaganda paintings conveyed the propaganda content about the meaning of the first General Election; expressed the Vietnamese people's aspiration for independence and freedom; and affirmed the Party and President Ho Chi Minh's absolute belief in the patriotism of our people.

With typical works such as: "Welcoming the 80th anniversary of the first General Election to elect the Vietnamese National Assembly" by author Nguyen Thi Ly (Ninh Binh province); "80 years for independence, freedom, and happiness" by author Nguyen Anh Thap (Phu Tho province); or the work: "Science, technology, innovation and digital transformation are the main driving force for socio-economic development" by author Cao Tuan Viet (Hung Yen province)... and many other works have vividly demonstrated the strength of the great national unity bloc and the aspiration for independence and freedom.

Deputy Director of the Department of Grassroots Culture, Family and Library Nguyen Quoc Huy shared: “The victory of the first General Election to elect the National Assembly of Vietnam marked the maturity of the Vietnamese revolutionary State, opening a new era for our country with a National Assembly, a unified Government, a progressive Constitution and a fully legal and nominal government system to represent the Vietnamese people in domestic and foreign affairs. The election is the basis to affirm the legitimacy and democracy of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam - a State of the people, by the people and for the people, entrusted by the people with the responsibility of governing the country, organizing the people's resistance, building the nation, and resolving all of Vietnam's diplomatic relations in the international arena”.

Deputy Director of the Department of Culture and Sports of An Giang, Nguyen Van Mao, emphasized that the exhibition is also an opportunity to honor the glorious 80-year journey of the National Assembly of Vietnam - the highest state power agency, always closely associated with the people, accompanying the nation in the cause of fighting for independence and national unification, as well as in the cause of construction, development and international integration today.

On January 6, 1946, the first General Election for the National Assembly took place throughout the country, including the war zones in the South, South Central and Central Highlands. In the Northern provinces, although having to deal with the enemy's sabotage plots, the General Election took place safely.

The first general election of Vietnam in 1946 was conducted according to the most progressive democratic principles: universal, equal, direct and secret ballot and was completely victorious. The first National Assembly of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam) was born.
