'Illusion' of stage 5B opens the 2025 International Experimental Theatre Festival

On the afternoon of November 16, at stage 5B (HCMC), the play 'Illusion' opened the 6th International Experimental Theatre Festival, which will run until November 30.

The festival was organized by the Vietnam Stage Artists Association in coordination with the Ninh Binh Provincial People's Committee in Ninh Binh, but many units could not gather here, so the organizing committee agreed to expand to 3 more locations: Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi , Hai Phong. The jury including screenwriter - Dr. Nguyen Dang Chuong, director - Meritorious Artist Tran Thang Vinh, director Lulu Marie Aurelia Obermayer (German nationality), director Tsuyoshi Sugiyama (Japanese), and stage evaluation and assessment expert Doina Cezarina Lupu (Romanian nationality) will come to the place to watch and score.

There are 28 plays, reformed opera, cheo, circus, puppetry, of which 7 are from Mongolia, China, Japan, Uzbekistan, Poland, Korea, the rest are from Vietnamese units. The organizing committee said that the number of Vietnamese plays registered this year is a very large, a good sign, but the evaluation board has reviewed and eliminated some plays, only selecting quality works.

All plays follow the criteria of experimentation, seeking novelty, creativity, and uniqueness in scriptwriting techniques, performance language, or staging techniques… The content of the plays is translated into English with subtitles for easy follow-up. In addition, there is also an English MC.

According to director - People's Artist Giang Manh Ha, Vice President of the Vietnam Stage Artists Association: "Through the festival, Vietnamese artists have more opportunities to connect, exchange and share creative artistic experiences with the world , thereby finding development directions for the stage." And he further emphasized that not all explorations are immediately successful, so we need to encourage, motivate, and from failures we will draw valuable experiences for the future.

Ho Chi Minh City has 6 participating plays: Ao Quan (Stage 5B), Nguyet Ha (Stage Hong Van), Son Ha (Stage Sen Viet), Hon Tho Ngoc (Experimental Theater The Gioi Tre), Con Hong Thuy (Ho Chi Minh City Theater and Cinema Association), Chuyen Ca Na (Hero Film Company), all of which are socialized units.

People's Artist Hong Van said: "Although our stage has to struggle with the market economy , our professional blood still quietly boils whenever there is an opportunity. We want our artists to keep the fire in their hearts and dare to take on challenges, otherwise they will be worn out by the daily grind. Festivals are an 'excuse', a 'fate' for artists to break away from their daily safety and seek new creations."
