Anh Duc returns to his old home as a coach

(NLDO) - Binh Duong Club officially parted ways with coach Nguyen Cong Manh and appointed Nguyen Anh Duc as the new head coach even though there are only 5 rounds left in the 2024-2025 V-League.

After a 1-3 defeat against Hong Linh Ha Tinh in round 21, the leadership of the team decided to reach an agreement to let coach Cong Manh leave, even though he had previously asked to resign in round 19 but was retained.

Accordingly, the two sides "going their separate ways" was completed on the evening of May 6, before the 22nd round against Quang Nam at Go Dau Stadium. It is known that before making this decision, the team's management had contacted coach Anh Duc and successfully convinced him to lead the team.

The Binh Duong -born strategist will be introduced to fans in round 22 against Quang Nam on May 11 at Go Dau Stadium. This is also the third head coach change for Binh Duong this season, and the club will soon announce the official appointment decision.

Under the leadership of Mr. Cong Manh, who took over in December 2024, Binh Duong only won 1, drew 3, and lost 6 after 10 rounds, struggling at the bottom of the table. Under pressure to perform, "changing generals" became a mandatory solution to save this season from the top.

Regarding the new coach Nguyen Anh Duc, he started his football career and grew up with Binh Duong Club. The strategist born in 1985 has been a symbol of the team since he was a player and captain.

He and this team won many V-League titles and made an important contribution to the 2018 AFF Cup championship with the Vietnamese team. After retiring, Anh Duc worked as an assistant to coach Park Hang-seo and then led Binh Phuoc in the First Division.

As head coach, Anh Duc is expected to spread the spirit and promote internal understanding to revive Binh Duong, first of all to complete the goal of staying in the league.
