According to statistics from the Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM), from September 26 to 29, storm No. 10 directly impacted flight operations in the two flight information regions of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City (Hanoi FIR and Ho Chi Minh FIR).
Specifically, on September 26, 42 flights changed routes. On September 27, 181 flights changed routes; at Da Nang International Airport, 5 flights had to land at the alternate airport, 30 flights were on hold, and one flight was canceled due to substandard weather.
On September 28, 92 flights had to change routes, including Da Nang, Phu Bai, Dong Hoi, and Tho Xuan, which had to temporarily close their airports for several hours, resulting in nearly 100 flights being canceled. By 3 p.m. on September 29, only one flight had to change routes due to the impact of storm No. 10.
According to the report on the damage caused by storm No. 10, at Vinh airport, a series of items such as the terminal roof, office building, warehouse and fence system were damaged; many trees were broken, and some vehicles were also damaged. Dong Hoi and Tho Xuan airports recorded the phenomenon of roofs being blown off, flooding, lighting system problems, some panels of the terminal roof were peeled off, some temporary fences of construction works collapsed, and temporary sheds had their roofs blown off.
Authorities are continuing to inspect, count and urgently fix the problem to soon restore traffic, ensuring safety for people and vehicles.
Previously, in order to proactively respond to storm No. 10, ensure safety of flight operations, people and property at airports, and minimize negative impacts on flight operations, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam requested agencies and units to organize 24/7 duty; strictly implement the Procedures for responding to storms and tropical depressions in civil aviation activities.
For Van Don International Airport and airports under the Vietnam Airports Corporation in the area affected by storm No. 10, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam requests the presiding units to coordinate with relevant agencies and units to inspect the airport infrastructure system, communication system... to promptly detect and handle damages (if any) to ensure the safety of works, stations, and ensure the safety of operations at airports.
At the same time, deploy plans to prevent rain and storms, measures to prevent flooding, clear the flow in airports, protect works, vehicles and equipment at airports, minimize damage caused by rain and storms and quickly stabilize all aviation activities to serve the needs of passengers.
