Some of the devices being assembled in Vietnam include iPads, HomePods, Mac computers, AirPods, and Apple Watches, Apple announced on May 29. This year, the company plans to conduct more than 45 technical training courses for employees at many of its major manufacturing facilities in the country.

According to Apple, the new programs aim to enhance technical training, supporting supplier employees in Vietnam in developing skills in automation, smart manufacturing and programming.

Rolled out in May, the new courses are part of Apple's $50 million Global Supplier Employee Development Fund.

Smart manufacturing, automation technician training and programming courses will take place at major supply partners, including Foxconn, Lens, BYD, Goertek, Innovation and Yuto.

“The spirit of innovation in product manufacturing is also our orientation in our commitment to supporting human resources in the global supply chain.

“We are excited to expand technical training to more suppliers in Vietnam, helping their employees learn new skills in advanced fields and develop stronger careers,” said Sabih Khan, Apple’s senior vice president of operations.

The new plan nearly doubles the number of technical courses available to Apple supplier employees in Vietnam. Since 2017, the company has partnered with partners to provide skills-building, leadership development, and healtheducation courses.

The programs include health and wellness training for production team leaders in Vietnam, in partnership with several major health and education organizations. According to Apple, the wellness programs have reached more than 5.8 million employees at its suppliers globally since 2017.

Apple devices made in Vietnam have become increasingly popular in recent years. The Mac mini M4, Apple’s first carbon-neutral computer, is also assembled in Vietnam.

Amid complicated tariffs, CEO Tim Cook said the majority of iPhones imported into the US in the second quarter came from India, while iPads and other devices were manufactured in Vietnam.

In addition to technical training, Apple will also expand its vocational education program for people with disabilities in Vietnam this year, starting with three domestic suppliers.

“With more than 18,000 supplier employees benefiting to date, the program partners with suppliers to provide employment and career development opportunities across Apple’s supply chain for people with disabilities, while improving safety, accessibility, and inclusion practices at supplier facilities,” Apple said in a statement.

Over the past year, Apple also expanded its long-standing partnership with the International Labor Organization (ILO), training more than 64,000 employees and 700 supplier managers on workplace rights.
